Updated weather is awesome?

I read so much about the problems with live weather so
I installed the latest update yesterday and for me it´s better than ever.

No sudden changes or towering clouds in the ground, very accurate and I can still
see weather fronts 100s of miles away and fly into them. So what am I missing?

Need more time with it, but it does look better. Mist/fog on ground now not whole clouds merging with the ground . No sudden transitions seen yet. Definitely better than it was post SU7.

I woke up this morning, loaded the update and now the clouds are no longer ground fog!
I was praying for this to be fixed. This amazing flight sim is now almost perfect for me as a GA pilot.

For me always great transitons of the wind’s speed in altitude generating overspeed with airliners and for me this is the only thing not correct in the weather for the moment.

Weather will always cause lot of opinions. Even when there is an update with no changes at all to the weather, you will see comments ranging from “They ruined the clouds!!!” to “Weather is perfect now!”

I definitely think they are on the right track and there will be some further tweaks and improvements down the line.

yeah that´s what I mean, didnt noticed that at all

Yea I thought clouds are more realistic and the transitions are smother. But ya know I hear lots of different opinions of real weather

Yesterday I departured from KSFO with an overcast and it was depicted quite good. Then on my way to LTFM, it waz drizzling along with low level clouds and they were also perfectly depicted.

Removed self-deprecating portion of title.

Cloud base I find is still too low, not matching the METAR, eg 6000ft reported is depicted as 1600 in the sim. And it’s still cumulus-or-nothing.

But a big improvement though, as it looks a lot better now; I’m not complaining at all, as it’s going in the right direction.

Yes it is an improvement. And I also agree with you that cumulus is way over done.

Please give us some stratus clouds as well!!

Oh, how true that is… But! There really are few issues with the current weather (thanks @perrry for pointing this out during the beta), biggest of which is lacking real overcasts. Also we do not have thunderstorms since a while, and wind gusts seem non-existant in live weather.

That said, I generally do love the current depiction of clouds, always in awe when flying.

Yes, i think most of those problems is when the cloud-bases are predicted/reported real low. As i mentioned to you i have much problems in Sweden and here it’s low cloudbases now around 200ft above ground level. Can’t fly in Sweden because of that problem. I have repported to zendesk about that. Hope they can fix that soon  I also like the depiction when it works.

Not up to scratch on my clouds, is that the ones that look like something apocalyptic in FS?

I only took short flight yesterday but live weather seemed good, it was rainy and overcast in London UK, but some clouds did look a bit over done, likely the cumulus clouds.

The Live weather seems to be pretty accurate with the update. Tested it out the other day when I heard there was a cyclone/hurricane brewing in Fiji. Loaded up a flight across the Island in a Kodiak and spawned on the runway.

Got to say the weather was certainly cyclonic…much worse than the storm preset. As far as the flight went…takeoff was ok but thats where my good fortune ended. Foolishly tried to engage autopilot at around 4000 feet and my poor Kodiak proceeded to get blown out of the sky.

So learnt 2 things. One, live weather seems to be working quite well (albeit with sometimes funny looking clouds). An two, never accept a ride from someone with a Kodiak during a cyclone.

It’s a big improvement regards to clouds, but reported METAR wind gusts are not happening and make for less challenging landings. Sure, you get a nice crosswind to crab into but the challenging gusts are almost non-existent E.g. Other day at YSSY, winds were ‘…34023KTG32KT…’ in real-life and also from the YSSY METAR in the sim - but the ‘gusts’ in the sim were only +/- 2kts from 23KT ‘constant’ wind speed reported by the METAR, from ~2000ft all the way to the threshold.

I just came across this kind of weather in the English Channel.

Have never seen clouds being reflected like that in real life in open water. Small lakes: yes, but not on the sea. Anyone ever seen such a thing?

Yep, I’ve been out on our dinghy in glass-like seas like this. Rare but amazing

I guess especially rare in the English Channel near Dover in January
