Updating installed packages gets many "Failed updates"

So after installing the Beta, my first step was to update all my packages, for max stability, but everytime i goto install batches of completed downloads, im getting lots of failed installs (with red triangle, often disables the package also)

While some can be re-tried many dont do anything when i click retry. often the only other option is to Uninstall, instead of cancel, but sometimes cancel is there instead of Uninstall too.

If it auto disables the package, or you uninstall the failed package, there doesnt seem to be a way to re-enable it OR re-install it, theres just nothing in the bottom right corner once you select it

to reproduce try update several packages in batches.

On a side note, a separate tab at the top, with all packages that have available updates, would be nice, instead of sifting through the groups 1 by 1, trying to find updates

I’m experiencing the same issue - some packages failed to install on my side as well.

I just cancelled all the failed ones, went out of library, but when i went back in to re-download them, they appear to have actually installed. Must be a bug, i dont think i got it individually installing them though, just when installing several at once?!

There’s a way to deal with that. Click update and let it download everything. When it’s done, close the simulator and go to your Official2024 folder. You’ll notice duplicate files with the same name, except one ends with .temp. Remove the original folder, then rename the one with .temp by taking off the .temp part. That’s it, the update will be applied.

Or wait till they fix it

actually, tell a lie, these ones disabled, and i have no way to re-enable them. Might have to try @Empire9943 ā€˜s idea. See how theyre selected but nothing in bottom right

No temps in my official2024/steam folder unfortunately. Looks like im left to the hands of the Beta gods !!

I went to the Installed tab, applied the Update Available filter, then selected all the packages with available updates and uninstalled them.

After that, I moved to the Streamed tab and re-selected the packages I want to have installed. This method works in my case.

EDIT

I forgot to mention that before downloading, I had to enable some packages.

EDIT 2

After re-downloading and reinstalling, I can’t install just one aicraft.

I did some testing and actually found a little trick that worked for me, LOL. What I did was download the updates, but not all of them at once; I took them one by one or in smaller groups. Once the download finished, I clicked Install, and a couple of the files did install normally. After that, I went back to the main menu and then into the Library again. When I did this, the updates that were showing before disappeared, and it now showed the game as fully installed and up to date.

It also seems like each of us is getting different outcomes from this. For me I never see the red warning that says ā€œinstallation failed,ā€ but I know some of you do.

I did this last SU3 beta. Now the Base content that has 300GB fails repeatedly. I think the architecture of this is really not good.
Instead of ā€œOne click updateā€ that would work we have this ā€œselectā€ each one by one then try to download then try to updated and if you have fails is a huge headache.

And for a patch we basically have to download 400GB or something similar…

for example this… I am trying to understand the logic of this, is there any? Look how one updates the other doubled… You can see on the ones in the middle that ar grey not orange how it says ready to install although they are incomplete… if you download once and just go to downloads you will be confused because there you see only what’s completed… but it says ready to install as opposed to what it said at start : ā€œupdate availableā€. And the fact that they are doubled… bogs the mind…

And this is not only this time I update… look… I have finished to download the gre ones above and installed them… actually just one but it installed its double ofcourse also… but more than that the double bellow got ā€œinstalledā€ magically when the grey ones finished… and now we can see it says installed (because it says uninstall) but 0 out of 70… seriously… there are parts of this sim that I really think are just scaffolding only and the ā€œleadershipā€ thinks is a complete part there because they have no time to check.

it’s not my point to spam etc… but please look how it looks inside… so now is magically installed by previous category but looks 0 out of 70 and when you open it is like this:

And this is how all world and city updates are downloaded…

This is an issue on Xbox also. There’s a significant amount of failed updates.

I’m having this issue too. Not just with City updates, but with anything that I had installed locally

Thank you for the bug report.

We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.

In my case, I not only had several ā€œUpdatesā€ fail, I also found that NONE of the so-called ā€œUpdatesā€ are actually updates in the true sense of the word. Instead, when you click on Update, the entire file downloads rather than just a patch. In MSFS 2020, when you update data, you only have to download a patch, not the entire file. I’m already at my data limit for the month because I downloaded then entire 450 GB data package twice in one month in order to apply ā€œUpdates.ā€ The entire Update system for MSFS 2024 needs to be overhauled so that it works the same way MSFS 2020 does.

I had this issue with SU3 already. At the time the consensus was to simply uninstall all downloaded packages and download them again. Annoying but it works, did the same for SU4.

Yes, deleting / uninstalling the already downloaded version on the system, then downloading and installing the new version worked (eventually).

So i just switched to Su4 Beta and now i have to update all my packages. Its not just a small update, i have to install everything again. Thats not the first time that MSFS24 duplicates data for no reason.

Is that intended or just a bug?

My Internet is very slow. I dont want to download 300GB again :smiling_face_with_tear:

As I noted above, I have exactly the same issue. Ever since the option to download MSFS 2024 data came online, the ā€œUpdatesā€ have not been updates in the true sense of the word, but rather redownloads of data in their entirety. Contrast that with the update process in MSFS 2020 where the updates are merely patches to existing data.

Bottom line, the entire ā€œUpdateā€ process in MSFS 2024 needs to be completely overhauled to conform with the approach used in MSFS 2020. Otherwise, we will all be burning up internet data limits for no reason.

Unfortunately this did not work for me :face_holding_back_tears:

Same problem over here. Switched to SU4, and then having to download all the packages again. It’s an infuriating process, even with a gigabit connection:

  • Select all packages, download packages.
  • Several downloads fail.
  • Redownload the failed packages.
  • When all packages are downloaded, install.
  • Several packages fail to install.

But you can’t just reinstall the packages… No, you have to redownload them again.

  • Several downloads fail.
  • Redownload the packages.
  • Reinstall the packages.
  • Several packages fail to install…

Yeah, I could go on like this forever. It makes me want to throw my PC out the window, but the poor thing can’t help it.

It now appears that not only do we get many failed installs but I now have the problem that even the ones that were ā€œsuccessfullyā€ installed have ā€œdisappearedā€ and are now listed as Streaming
