Hi there
I am absolutely not a fanboy of any brand.
I have been using Intel cpu’s from the i5 2500k era because it was believed that Intel CPUs were better with the fsx and other flight sims back then.
So I completely stopped tracking AMD development.
Now my 9700K is coming to the end of its life so I am planning to upgrade my CPU. Since the lovely intel doesn’t like giving a chance to install newer series to current boards, I assume I will need to move to new mobo and DDR5 too.
I planned to buy the Intel 14 series but learned that these CPUs are pretty much dead due to heat or voltage problems.
My eyes are currently on AMD 7800X3D or the upcoming Intel 15 series.
My criteria:
- Budget is not limited. F/P is important
- I would like to have a chance to upgrade the CPU in the future
- I am almost using the PC for gaming. Primarily for MSFS and DCS (plus some other racing or military sims)
- I am not a computer guy. So I don’t want to cope with the heat, ctd and other problems. I just want to build and play. Not want to fight wit the bios or other stuff.
Looking forward to hearing your advice.
Thanks in advance
Buy a pre built from a reputable handler with customer support
I can install these parts no problem for it. Just can’t go deeper like overclock, downclock, bios fine tunning etc.
The 7800X3D is (at least for the money) currently the best you can get and yes you’ll need a new mobo and ddr5 ram. I don’t have any of this kit so can’t suggest much further but I’d want a 670 chipset if using more than one M.2 drive
There’s never a bad time to buy the best hardware. We’re nearing a precipice now between 2024 MSFS and new hardware. So you can either leap ahead in a few months or get bigger discounts on current heroes(but I doubt that on the X3D’s it’s going to be much).
Without a need for hard core productivity bang for the buck 7800X3D/650, 670 mobo for some future proofing. 7950X3D/670 for the current gaming ‘top of the line’. Both CPU’s run cool and don’t need complicated cooing systems, and really don’t need any over/underclock tweaks, they’re pretty much good to go. MSFS2020 is the thing that needs tweaks.
Of course for GPU it’s the best you can afford, although from 7900xtx/4080s to 4090 is a big leap. 7900xtx is kind of the dark horse, because on paper it should be the best MSFS card, but that will come down to how 2024 handles it. Currently NVIDIA software still rules.
I’ve just upgraded from a 10900k to a 7800X3D with new X670E MB and DDR5 ram. I went for those because of the discounts, and the MB should support new AMD processors for the next few years. Kept my existing 3090, and my FPS have increased from around 40 to 60 FPS with the PMDG 777 on my settings, most on high/ultra and AI traffic, and using a 3440x1440 monitor.
Hi Guys
Sorry for bumping my old thread.
I just can’t decide.
If I replace my 9700K with a 9900K, will it make any noticable difference?
If not; is replacing it with 7700X good idea?
I need to spare some budget because I am also planning to buy a Moza Ab9, which is very expensive too.
