Well, I was having a nightmare trying to get FS2024 to run without CTDs after 10 or 15 mins of flying. I also had some issues with FS2020 but it was nothing like the bug fest of 2024
I had 32GB or RAM which I thought was ample, but for ‘only’ $100 bucks I could get a 64GB kit so opted for that to try it out. When I installed it things looked fine but I realized I had downgrade my BIOS a while back because I was having audio popping issues with my Audio Interface (I also produce music, and the audio issues were not just limited to MSFS but almost everything). It turns it it was the audio interface that was the problem, so I bought another one and the sound problems with the PC disappeared. It was a joy to have good quality sound!
After trying out MSFS2024 a few times, including in pretty built up areas like Manhattan at 4k resolution and pretty modest settings (i.e. TLOD of 200, Objects at 150) it really worked pretty flawlessly and very smoothly.
I have a couple of mods to try and make it as smooth as possible but the 64gb has just made it feel so much more stable, with very minimal stutters, and if they are stutters I’d imagine it might be my CPU or GPU.
Here are my specs
11900K
RTX 3080 (downloaded the Frame Gen Mod and use DLSS Swapper)
TeamGroup 64GB RAM at 3600 on XMP (Chat GPT told me to buy it so I did)
Conclusion. I can’t be sure that the 64GB or RAM fixed my CTD issues but if I recall, even before I originally downgraded the BIOS because of the audio issues I was still having CTDs with MSFS especially in longer sessions.
I have read on numerous forums that the one thing a vast amount of RAM does is give complex apps and games stability. I think this is ultimately what worked.
Feel free to move to the right forum if I got this wrong…
