I am currently running a RTX 3060 with I7 11700KF Processor which was good for me for 1 1/2 years until all of the add-ons (sceneries) came out which seems to be more focused on superb quality and not so good performance. I carefully tweaked my settings (like lowering my TLOD to 150, etc) to get an average 30 FPS with a smooth flight with KJFK and LAX (Inibuilds) flying the PMDG 737. The problems comes when I use FSLTL traffic (low settings) and run into some clouds the I lose at least 10 FPS. Loosing 10 FPS when averaging 40 is ok not when you are at 30.
My bottleneck fluctuates between GPU and CPU very marginal on the CPU side probably due to the tweaking of my settings.
So I am hoping if I upgrade to the 4070 TI I can at least take advantage of the DLSS 3 and frame rate generation and get some little more perks. Again, I am not looking for miracles just enough to get a smooth flight averaging 30-35 FPS without having to lower my TLOD below 100
I am not looking to go crazy on a card (like north of $1,000) at this time also given that there is only so much I can achieve with my current CPU which then becomes a total bottleneck.
Any thoughts from anyone who is using the card with somewhat of a similar configuration would be greatly appreciated. Any RTX 40XX card should be better than what I have now.
BTW my monitor is a 2560x1440 @ 60Hz.
Bang per buck the you’d be better off withe the non TI version, unless you’ve got a really good deal on the TI card. The 4070 (non ti) is loosely equivalent to the old 3080. The 4070TI card is almost a third more expensive and much less capable than the 4080. If cost isn’t an issue, I’d save the extra couple of hundred £ and get the 4080. If you’re looking to save a few bucks, go with the 4070 (non ti)
Just my tuppence worth. Good luck with the upgrade.
p.s. Just to add I’m running the same resolution with an 13700k (not over clocked) with the 3080 10Gb card and get 55fps windowed or 70 fps full screen. My friend has the 4070 (not ti) and a very similar setup, but with a 12700k and is getting slightly better performance than me.
I can’t offer actual Intel experience, since I have a 5800X3D / 3090 Ti combo, but it sounds to me like you have a good grasp of the situation. Have you considered spending the money instead on an upgraded CPU/MOBO?
You can get an i7-13700k and MSI MAG Z690 TOMAHAWK WiFi DDR4 for $700 from Amazon.
That saves you about $150 over the 4070 Ti.
The main reason to focus on the CPU would be to prepare to take advantage of the new code we’ve been told will be implemented in FS2024. I believe the performance gains will be greater for those who have more capable CPU’s, and less for those who have DLSS3-capable GPU’s.
I would agree that frame rate generation on a 40xx may be the most cost-effective boost for you in this scenario but make sure you purchase with a good return/refund policy just in case.
I’m happy with my 4070ti. I’m able to get 30-40fps in the air and 25-35fps on the ground. All setting maxied except for trees and grass I have found that low yields the most realistic results for me.
I don’t use DLSS because DX12 gives me the blurries.
@XR219, thanks so much for your response. Yes I guess the question is will I see any difference between the TI and none TI. On the fence at the moment since I really don’t know if the clock speeds will make a difference for MSFS; other games maybe.
Unfortunately, the 4080 is a little out of my reach at this time, given everything else I have been spending lots of money on lately .
Just a thought - if you live close by a Micro Center store in the U.S., you can purchase open box GPU’s at a discount. These are new GPU’s that have been returned within their 30 day return window. The only caveats are that you must purchase in-store and the return window shrinks to 10 days.
I went this route recently and picked up a $1100 7900 XTX for $900. The card looked like new and works like new and I’m very happy with it. You can look on Micro Centers web site under GPUs and use the filter to find the open box units.
@BegottenPoet228 ; Thanks for your input I appreciate it. My rig is less than 2 years old (which is outdated by the time the PC arrives at your home anyway ) but I don’t want to get involved in upgrading CPU/MOBO + possibly different memory sticks etc. at this early stage. Will stick with 2020 for now and in a few years upgrade my hardware. Would prefer to continue trying to get good (acceptable) performance with MSFS 2020 for the immediate future.
The biggest improvement you will get will be from Frame Generation. It’s night and day.
I have a 4070ti and one thing I would say is DON’T overpay. That is, don’t pay extra for LED’s or an overclocked edition (the overclocks are tiny). Definitely DO NOT pay more than the base price of £799. Hopefully they have dropped below that now.
I bought a Inno3D (Had never heard of them) version for 799 ( which was the base price but still too expensive) and it has been top notch.
It’s a very good card but it’s not a 800 quid card - more like 600 to be honest
@meh1951’s quote > I ’m happy with my 4070ti. I’m able to get 30-40fps in the air and 25-35fps on the ground. All setting maxied except for trees and grass I have found that low yields the most realistic results for me.

Thanks for your information meh1951, I really appreciate it. This is exactly what I am looking for and or targeting. I fully understand that performance may vary based no numerous factors but it’s in the ball park also, given what I have get now with my existing card.
The only question now based on XR219 's suggestion about the price difference between the TI and none TI is, is the TI worth the extra $150 - $200 over the none TI. My take is the extra clock speed of the TI my help in other areas that I am not aware of as yet.
Overall, everyone has been so great in providing feedback and very informative information and I really appreciate it. Since it’s only a purchase of a GPU I think I took up enough of everyone’s precious time and will probably end up going with the 4070 Ti
Will update the Forum with an update / performance once I get it.
The rumor is that DLSS 3 (frame generation) works better for 4K monitors. If you are not looking for miracles my be a 4070 is good enough ( https://youtu.be/usm1IdNSYRY?si=XWlANHGwId_0gKZr)? Not a huge save, but really I do not see a big difference btw 4070Ti and 4070. And it looks for me conspiratorially that the reason NVIDIA is not producing any more 4070 is that this card is good enough not to go for Ti:))) The truth is that if we bye 4070 we will always tempted to think what if we have a Ti:))))
For myself… I’ll go for 4060 or 3060ti (I have an old PC non PCI 4 and 4060Ti has only 8 PCI Express lines against 16PCI Express lines for 3060Ti) 2 times cheaper. Yes, 4060 is only 128 bit, however 4070Ti is only 192 bit…
Only starting from 4080 we receive a really “normal” 256 bit card.
Well ignore those rumours. Monitor size is irrelevant. What ever your frames are without DLSS 3 you will get double that with DLSS 3. It is creating and inserting a new frame in between every two rasterised frames.
As far as the the differences between the 4070 and the 4070ti in terms DLSS 3, there are no differences. Your frames will be doubled with either one. Of course the rasterised frames will be more with the ti.
If your 4070 gives 40fps (raster) then you will get around 80 with DLSS 3
if your 4070ti gives 50fps (raster) then you will get around 100 with DLSS 3
i712700@4.9 3060ti(@1440, DX11) to 4080 i have seen not a very significant FPS increase. HAGS on, DX12 with DLSS 3 with framegen has helped a lot to smooth the game play even with FSLTL . IMO the major issue is the not well optimized MSFS 2020 code (therefore MSFS 2024). But I´m still quite happy with what i have now. Therefore I would invest in a new cpu and take the 4070.
Thanks for the input and your suggestion on staying with my 3060, I appreciate it… I always worry when someone says they get great FPS but with no further clarification for a reference point. I am sure you are getting great FPS with your 3060ti I would probably be also happy with the ti if I had it. I get acceptable FPS (35 fps at Inibuilds JKF and LAX) with my 3060, the problem is the min I use FSTLT Traffic I lose 7-10 FPS off the bat sometimes dipping into the teens at times. Since I am on the edge in terms of settings, there is nothing much I can do to recover those lost FPS.
So my approach is to upgrade just enough to give me some more breathing room so that I can run FSLTL and stay in the 30’s with some good settings .
I upgraded from a 3060 to a 4070 TI. With the 3060, I was not able to drive a 1440p monitor at 60 fps full screen at the quality level I wanted. So I ran in a smaller window mode. With the 4070 TI, I am able to run full screen 1440p at 70Hz ultra with no artifacting frame gen and no fuzzy DLSS enabled.
The big negative with the 4070TI is the $800 cost. However compared to what I paid for the 3060 during the crypto boom, I was able to get over it.
