Upgrading SSD m.2 MSFS Drive from 1TB to 2TB?

Might be worth the time to read through this article before you start anything. Even though this is written with the thought of upgrading from a spinner, the concept is the same.

What you do not want to do is simply to “drag and drop” in Windows Explorer. This works okay for data discs, but for boot drives you should perform a bit-to-bit clone.

One more thing to consider: if your current drive is formatted to be an MBR disk it is probably worth the hassle of setting up the new 2TB SSD as a GPT drive. GPT is a newer format that takes advantage of UEFI, which has many benefits. Read all about it (and how to convert an MBR drive) in this article.

NOTE: if you are already running Win 11 you already have a GPT drive. If you’re on Win 10 you will need to convert to GPT to run Win 11… so might as well get ready for that (eventual) switch.

Cheers… and good luck!
