This morning I loaded up for a flight and immediately got the following upside-down Y in the Garmin G3X of the VL-3. It does not move when the map moves or resize when the map resizes. (The airplane symbol moves with the map.)

I’m guessing it’s an error symbol of some kind, but I’m not sure what it means or how to get rid of it.
Why do I see it?
Any community mods installed?
using a mod for the G3000? or base sim?

I have several mods installed. A recent one is an updated VL-3, but it shouldn’t do anything to the standard VL-3 since it has a different name. I’ll remove it though and see if it has an effect.
I just pulled the updated vl-3 (Rotax 915) from the Community folder, and restarted MSFS to try this again, and got the same graphic as before.
So I loaded up the Cessna 172 (G1000) to see if it had the same problem and sure enough,
I realized another recent mod I made this morning was to update the Navigraph Navdata to the most reason beta version.
I removed that data to restore the default data, and that seems to have resolved that problem. Now to resolve the problem the fix created!
If you have an old version of the WorkingTitle G3X mod installed, you get that exact error you pointed out. It can actually clash with both the default and WT G1000 as well. As good as it can be, if you ahve it installed, get rid of it. The WT G3X hasn’t been updated in ages and there’s no one actively working on it that I’m aware of.
If you don’t have the G3X mod, then I don’t know what your issue could be.
Are you referring to the G3000 mod? G3X is a different device from the G3000, and I’m not aware of a mod for it.
In any event, the change that caused the error was updating the Navigraph Navdata app, and AIRAC cycle. I have a note at the Navigraph support forum for the problem, and I am waiting there for a reply.
Yes, there is a mod for the G3X by WorkingTitle. It’s known to cause interference with the G1000/3000 (both modded and unmodded).

I have all three installed, and I don’t have this issue with the G1000.

I don’t know what issues in particular, but I was reading something on the WT GitHub a couple of weeks back where it was said that the G3X has some code that clashes with the G1000 / G3000 code. I don’t remember the specifics, but many have confirmed that removing the G3X solved the issue they were having.
That said, the inverted Y the OP posted about, I have seen on both the G3X and G1000. The G3X used to be packaged with the VL-3 Rotax 915 mod initially. They’ve since removed the G3X from the VL-3 915 mod package and require it to be downloaded separately. So if the OP installed the VL-3 mod from an older package, it would also have included the old G3X without his knowledge. And it’s not contained in the VL-3 mod folder, but the Community folder. So removing the 915 mod wouldn’t fix the issue if the G3X is still there.
Now I don’t know for sure that this is the problem, but seeing how it’s related with using the VL-3 mod, I suspect the OP has an outdated version the G3X mod installed without realizing it.

I updated all three, as I hadn’t touched the WT mods in ages. I had two problems initially:
- Black screens. This was fixed by downloading the other two mods.
- First flight I had a non-working airspeed tape on the left. Re-launching MSFS fixed that.
But I’ve never seen that inverted Y figure before. Perhaps it is aircraft/mod dependant. I was flying the C208 with a mod for it installed.

This was several months ago. Maybe it was in the C172 G1000? My old ■■■ has a hard time remembering what happened 15 minutes ago. Never mind 15 weeks.
In any case, updating the G3X got rid of that inverted Y.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I was not aware that there was a WT mod for the G3X, I can see from my Community folder that I installed the “workingtitle-gx” mod two days ago, apparently when I installed the VL-3 mod. I’ll update all of the WT mods to see if that helps.
It’s funny that I didn’t see the problem until after the Navigraph data update, and that removing that got rid of the Y, but I see now that although the Y is gone, my G1000 screens are both black. That was the case before, but I didn’t see it due to only seeing the big ugly Y.
Chances are, you may have had an old version of the VL-3 915 mod. There are a lot of old versions of it floating around various sites online. That’s likely why you also got the pre-packaged G3X without realizing it. Make sure you’re downloading the most current version (0.31 from Jan 2) at the link below.
Also, make sure you don’t just update the 3 WT mods. DELETE the folders from your Community folder completely before installing the new versions. The old versions may leave some files behind that cause issues with the latest versions.
On a side note, that VL-3 mod is awesome. It made that plane my #1 choice for sightseeing tours. It can do low and slow with great control, and when you hit the power, it goes like a scalded cat - something the stock plane was sorely missing.
I did. I downloaded it from github, but apparently from a link to one of the older versions. I also downloaded workingtitle-gx-v0.1.0-dev1.zip from github.
I’m reinstalling all of the mods and the Navigraph data, and I have my fingers crossed.

Hopefully this fixes things up for you. It’s kind of a pain to have to keep up with all these mods, especially when you have to navigate GitHub to find them. GitHub doesn’t have the most intuitive interface. Unless you know exactly where to look and how to find the newest releases, it can be difficult.
Hopefully Asobo can enable freeware in the in-game marketplace. That way, we can have updates all handled in 1 place, removing the guesswork.
