I was in the process of compiling a checklist for the FBW A320 in Google Sheets, and I intended to incorporate checkboxes into the document. However, I encountered an issue with Apple products: the default Preview app, used for reading PDF files on Mac and iPad, automatically updates the file once checkboxes are clicked, which is not desirable in our case. Each time we access a checklist, we prefer a fresh document without checkboxes being filled in. Furthermore, Preview lacks a feature to uncheck all checkboxes, and I’m not willing to invest in an Adobe Pro subscription just to create a PDF with a scripted button for clearing checkboxes. That’s out of the question.
Fortunately, FoxIt came to the rescue! I’ve relied on FoxIt for many years in my professional environment without any problems.
My current workflow involves creating the checklist in Google Sheets with checkboxes, then printing it to a PDF. I then open the PDF in FoxIt and check/clear the checkboxes as needed. Importantly, I ensure not to save the document when closing it. Problem solved!
If anyone knows of an alternative method for creating a PDF with checkboxes and the ability to add a “Clear Checkboxes” button, I’m all ears. Until then, I’ll continue using FoxIt to view PDF checklists generated from my preferred spreadsheet-to-PDF tool.
Thanks for the pointer to JayDee’s checklists, SkyPilotYTS. I had not seen the basic and extended checklist in flightsim.to before. He has everything covered! Thanks again.
I use Google Keep on my eink Tablet. When I touch the clickbox it puts a line through it and sends it to the bottom of the document. When I’ve finished a flight all the boxes are ticked and I just click on reset all checkboxes. I also have a master backup in the archive folder.
I didn’t know that Google Keep was available. I’ve been using Google from the very start too. Learn something new every day! Thanks for that.
It would be nice if it allowed three tiers of indented checklists, but I guess you just need to plan your lines of text properly.
I can see that this would be a great place to store all of my cold and dark airplane checklists in one place for quick and easy access in the Windows environment. Nice!
I like how it works nicely with my iPhone in dark mode. I will consider this option. Thanks for the idea! Much appreciated. Free Checklists are what its all about!
