I use a 1TB NVME SSD externally for the program and an ordinary hard disk for the scenery and community directory. This leaves my Windows drive (C:) free.
In use, there’s no slowdown, crashes or other anomalies. The external SSD is USB 3.1 and plenty fast enough.
