Using two 5080 graphics cards versus one 5090

There is an interesting U Tube video on the advantages, in terms of cost and sometimes performance, of running a PC system with two 5080 graphics cards as opposed to one 5090. The cost savings are significant. I wondered whether anyone has tried this with MSFS 2024 and whether the performance gains work.

SLI is a thing of the past. It’s not supported in very many games made today and the 50 series doesn’t support it itself. Last cards to support it were the 20 series if I recall.

The video suggests that you could use one card for rendering the game and the other for DLSS. I’m no technical expert which is why I asked the question.

His testing seems very focused on 3D rendering and video editing, which tend to scale well with multiple GPUs. I’ve only scrubbed through the video but didn’t see any mention of gaming usage.

Anyhow, most DLSS features aren’t very GPU-intensive so a second card would be a bit pointless. The only feature that might see an appreciable benefit running independently is the fancy new neural rendering in DLSS5. That’s actually how Nvidia presented their first examples of it, using two 5090s.

Thank you for the information.
