I’ve pretty much given up on the AP for things like ILS approaches. It just doesn’t seem to be able to trim rapidly enough, and cannot maintain the glideslope. It has no problem getting on to the localiser, and always lines up dead centre, but other than that its useless. During cruise it works fine though.
Compare this to the 172, and its night, and day. In the 172 you can be quite aggressive with the throttle, and the AP will climb, and dive to keep on the glideslope. It’s not the end of the world, but it does look like it still needs some work in that aspect. I think its the only plane that has this issue that I regularly fly.
I never agreed with the notion of “It’s not an AP aircraft”. If it has the system, it should work properly. It’s very easy to hand fly an ILS, the AP just can’t seem to do it.
What you should be able to do is adjust throttle to increase speed, as the AP pitches up, and down to maintain the glideslope. The 172 does this really well. What will happen here is, say you are just under the glideslope, it will trim up to get back on to it, overshoot, then not trim down fast enough, pushing you into a stall.
I was watching my pilot like a hawk yesterday on TJVQ-TJRV flight. He had a GNS530 but never used it. Never used any AP either. It was about 10 minute long flight in rainy weather. His approach left a lot to be desired - intercepted runway at 90 degrees too high and too fast, floated for 10-15 seconds to try to bleed off speed, landed fine, but used a fraction of available space to land, his intercept right turn was past the markers which were all the way to the left. Makes me feel better about some of my approaches when flying GA. These guys aren’t as procedurally-inclined as big bird pilots, I see.
It is a really shame they don’t do one given they seem to be the standard now even with the £15 planes but I do like that we have the real one to look at too and there’s a good checklist on Flightsim.to
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE !!
No Spoilers but … Full Prop Feathering and Windmill restart coming very Soon
Hmmm Thanks Asobo
Looks like you can have Feathering but it seems there is no Air start ( Apart from starter switch)
it would appear there is not enough Air passing through the Unfeathered Prop at 100 Kts to spin the blades LOL
I have tried both ends of the spectrum regarding Friction & Efficiency tables to No Avail
I will keep trying / release without Windmill Start ??
FULL FEATHERING AND WINDMILL AIR START NOW AVAILABLE !!
