I’m sorry.
Didn’t want to kidnap your thread. Just answered to a request farther up.
Should habe made clear that this is a mod and nothing official.
Added a note in the post.
I’m enjoying it a lot so far! Here’s my first flight in it. Special thanks to CanadianCaptainMoustache for helping me.
One thing I noticed that I have not seen mentioned elsewhere is that the tail number you choose in the customization settings does not appear as it does on other planes like the stock C152, where it appears on the fuselage and under the wing.
Loving it, and looking forward to switch sounds and more sounds in general, as they add so much to the experience!
They included the tail number in the livery itself. I guess there is a feature to disable your custom tail number from appearing. I would still prefer it if ATC referred to me by that registration, regardless of what the livery says.
EDIT: Easily “fixed” by changing these entries in the ‘aircraft.cfg’ from this:
atc_id =“9H-BBS”
atc_airline =“BlackBox”
To this:
atc_id =""
atc_airline =""
Does anyone have a startup checklist to follow for the Islander?
It’s a lovely aircraft to fly, but I’m finding that my electrics are dropping off a few minutes in to flight - I’m assuming my battery runs flat…
There is a POH you can download from the Blackbox website
Skip through to page 45 and there is a list of checks there.
It’s not about “all I want to do is turn knobs all day”. Sometimes I don’t have hours to sit at a PC or I need to step away for a few moments to deal with actual things in life. I’ll hand fly when I feel like I want to and won’t be interrupted. People sim in different ways for different reasons.
To have the free time to hand fly all my flights without interruption… I’d have to be rich and alone.
And those people asking for a clean cockpit version are asking because of VR fidelity reasons, not because they “clearly haven’t sat in one before”.
I’ve been playing around with making some useful camera views for the Islander, made from cribbing from other planes, and adjusted to suit this one, attached here in the guise of a .pln file.
BN2_CAMERAS.CFG.PLN (8.6 KB)
Rename the old “cameras.cfg” to “cameras.cfg.bak” or something, then install this its place, renamed back to “cameras.cfg” of course.
It has a landing view, close pilot view, instruments left/right view, a top panel view, and finally a fuel selectors view.
There is some redundant junk in there that shouldn’t affect things. I was looking to hide the yokes to get a better view of the lowest gauges, but wasn’t sure how to do that.
These work really nicely with a yoke hat switch.
Considering it was about 5 minutes work, it’s disappointing to see planes not ship with a more useful set of cameras. The Carenado ones are really bad, but easily corrected.
Hello…bought it yesterday. I would echo some of the comments about it being a great initial release and suggest the following improvements:
-
The switches to turn the yokes on and off are ridiculous and immersion-killing. EVERY other aircraft you click on the yoke and the disappear; click the hole where the shaft was and they reappear.
-
The copilot in the back seat…ridiculous looking. No I shouldn’t need to dig into the weight and balance EVERY…SINGLE…TIME to get rid of her.
-
Sorry to say that the carpet, heel scrape rectangles and the headliner resolution is sub-par for MSFS2020.
-
The sounds really do need improvements. Hire a sound designer?
-
A manual with performance charts is really needed too.
Thanks though for somethign different!
This has already been mentioned further up the thread, and they plan to.

Beautiful Bird! Had a lot of fun flying it last night!
Certainly has a few issues, but Man, was it a treat to cruise around in over the Caribbean! One of my favorite Aircraft in my fleet!
From the first pic months ago, I had hopes for this and I, personally, am very pleased with it.
I do wish the overhead headphone cords swayed from the motion of the aircraft. That would give a nice cherry on top to the great view in the cockpit!
Well done! Truly enjoy this Aircraft!!
Does anyone know, it there is a simbrief profile for the BN-2 Islander?

I was thinking that exact same thing. As soon as Asobo get that working, I expect a never ending stream of glare shield bobble heads, and Hula girls mods. ![]()
Autopilot Flying over ther Shetlands. First with the Mobile Companion App, later in the Cockpit’s Autopilot.
Some goofing around, not finding the airport and terrible landing on my part.
This, please.
My favourite version and livery. There is a paint kit for the BN2 now available on BBS website, so I’m tempted to have a go at something myself. BBS’s paint kit Photoshop files are immaculate, btw - very nicely put together!*
*IRL life I’m a graphic designer. I care about these things.

. Doing a quick coastal patrol as the sun-sets. Amazing
