I drilled three holes into he plywood desk from my Couchmaster Cyworks (m4 AFAIR) and it holds up pretty good, while leaving enough room for a keyboard and mouse.
That plank formerly held my Thrustmaster Hotas, with the throttle unit separate on the left side (as far as the connection cable allowed) and the keyboard in between.
