In their announcement about this beta, they said that We recommend all beta participants leave the flight before January 13th. Once you leave the flight, PC users will receive an update to the sim.
Does this mean that the next SU 8 will be released on January 13th?
No, it just means that the beta servers are closing after 13th Jan and everyone who is now participating should have moved over to the production servers by then by leaving the beta. If you are not participating in the beta, you will get the full update today, and if you are participating, there will be just a minor update to facilitate the move from beta when you leave it.

To the best of my knowledge there will be a public release today (6 Jan) so that everyone is now using the version that has been in beta.
Later on in January there will be a World Update.
In February, last time I checked, Sim Update 8 is due to be released.
Still confusing to me. You said that sim update will be today? Is this then the SU 8 or sim update beta?
I dont want to install any beta updates I want the final SU 8.
The update today are the fixes for the issues in SU7. Those that have been in beta testing since beginning of December. SU8 will be a different update next month.

Yeah its a fix from the broken SU7 update we had thats been in BETA for the last few weeks
SU8 should be releasing at the end of Feb.
Sadly nothing is really fixed for the weather in this update that is coming today. The live weather in the beta has still been a mess.
I heard about the weather issue is still very hit and miss…Im just happy they have fixed some of the VR bugs that happend in SU7
Yeah, it’s bad. I’m glad that things will be better for you and others with VR, but feel they should have focussed on the weather, as that affects everyone using the sim, rather than a subset of users with VR.
Of course, these total messes should never have been broken in the first place, it is blindingly, blindingly obvious that they weren’t tested properly.
That’s a matter of opinion and there are many with different views.
But anyway, as the update says, live weather is receiving ongoing attention, and probably always will
