Very bad performance on Xbox series S recently- Just me?

Open Command Prompt as administrator:

  1. Type CMD into the search field.
  2. On the right side, click on ‘Run as Administrator.’

Type tracert 8.8.8.8 and press Enter.

You will get a result similar to this. What you’re looking for is consistency. If at any point in the trace you see drastically higher millisecond response times you’ll know that point in the network is a potential problem that could be causing dropped packets. Be aware that some routers, ISP’s or firewall will block that command. So if the trace stops at a certain point before reaching 8.8.8.8 you won’t get meaningfull data.

I wish I knew the IP address of the Microsoft server that handles the sim’s streaming data uploads. That would be a much better test than pinging the Google public DNS server. This will at least check the route to your ISP.

This is on my slow laptop on a VPN. My gaming PC (no VPN) is on the bench…

For reference, I have a 1Gb fiber connection.
Speedtest.net shows 373Mb/s down / 253Mb/s up on this computer. It’s about twice that on my gaming PC, which has WiFi 6.

mines around 500 - 700 mbps

Do you ethernet cable to the router or wifi?

There was an Xbox omega system update today that has totally bricked the PMDG 737-800 on Series S.

Ctd during loading screen at any airport.

Hi your not alone, I have an Xbox S too. I get frustrated a lot too. I just want to fly a plane too. My problem was and still is depending what I fly. No big aircraft black avionics or crashing to Xbox main menu . MSFS advised me it was a resource problem with Xbox and it will get better with a near future update., so they know what’s happening. I’ve uninstalled some scenery updates which I don’t fly in like America, Australia, Japan etc. I just fly around Europe . I also uninstalled unnecessary liveries too. I’m flying ATR 72 600 with no black screens and no crashing to Xbox menu screen. I’m not getting any stuttering either at the moment. A320 neo standard version I still get black screens and any other big aircraft. I’m managing now flying with the ATR and I’m less frustrated. I know it’s not perfect but it’s better than before. So I know how you feel. I hope 2024 will be better but I’ll be changing to PC in the future.

I have Xbox S with full fibre. Its unusable for aircraft with screens.Black screens, even after disabling scenery overlays. I use my PC for aircraft with screens.

:+1:yes that’s about right.

It’s my understanding from my constant reading here that MSFS on PC can handle a plethora of addon’s (depending on how powerful your PC is), due to the use of virtual memory where the Xbox consoles don’t have this capability. Therefore the consoles can’t handle this and is more geared to the casual player who doesn’t want anything more serious in a SIM and is happy with just a vanilla state set up with very few aircraft. That’s my understanding.
