Very satisfied with Aerosoft Twin Otter

My little review about this beautiful bird:

  • One of the best manual - I learned many things about this bird like: If it sounds (engine sound) weird, you are doing wrong :stuck_out_tongue: Great summary of flight phases and of the turbo prop engine.

  • Great visuals, not best, but very good

  • Really accurate and satisfying flight model and flight experience.

  • Very good sounds 90% of the time - just some little transition issues. Not a big deal.

  • Downsides:
    Landing light not bright enough
    A little bit too loud in the cockpit ( yeah it is like in reality, but it is a problem because MSFS still doesnā€™t allow to change this volume)
    No zoom at GN530 (pop-out window)

Summary:
In the end, I got many different models of this great DHC-6 aircraft, even with skies and floats! Something that is still missing on some other planes (milviz pc-6 or sws kodiak).
95% of the systems are reliable and seem to function like described.
It has more functionality, more different models, and a way bigger manual than other payware GA in this ā€œclassā€ for only 30ā‚¬. Great deal!

Glad you are enjoying it.

Another downside (big) is the sound. We now have a few planes with excellent sound in the sim. Developers should know better by now to release planes with substandard sound.

Have you seen the other topic on here showing the major faults (such as the outbound VOR problems)?

The outside texture work is pretty good, sounds and flight model, maybe not so. Although new sound packs are imminent, I know.

Go into your options and sounds. Thereā€™s a slider for engine that will allow you to turn it down.

This is a joke, right? Itā€™s a terrible manual.

And what makes it worse is half the things it describes to you arenā€™t modeled, but they donā€™t tell you they arenā€™t modeled, and when called out the answer is simply that theyā€™ll fix the manual.

So much for ā€œdeep system depth.ā€

I picked it up, I think itā€™s great. Itā€™s not perfect but knowing Aerosoft, theyā€™ll fix some of the minor issues in no time. I agree with the OP, very good aircraft out of the gate and a welcome addition.

Looking forward to it. Spent almost 24 hours attempting to install so far ā€¦ keeps ā€˜encountering a problemā€™. I suspect that the problem is actually with my pathetic ISP, but there doesnā€™t seem to be any way to resume the installation if interrupted. I guess Iā€™ll try starting over again in a day or two.

Unfortunately, that will also turn down the sounds in other aircraft which arenā€™t loud.

Correct, so you can adjust as required.

Thereā€™s also a Headphones option in the sound section which should in theory reduce engine sounds but preserve ATC. I havenā€™t tried it but others said it improved the experience.

Yeah, real show-stopper, right? Imagine if you had to switch all your controller profiles around for each aircraft, and your graphics settings.

Only when viewed from the outside. It has no effect inside the cockpit. I forgot this myself, then claimed it was the only plane I had that was quieter outside. :wink:

You guys have to adjust graphics settings for individual planes? Iā€™ve never heard of that before, how come?

So very, very trueā€¦ You could create a sim using a fully-equipped 747 cockpit with 4k monitors in each window for visuals and all instrumentation workingā€¦ and Iā€™d guarantee someone would complain that itā€™s not realistic because the 747 THEY flew in smelled like jasmine, and this one doesnā€™tā€¦ :slight_smile:

some folks want their aircraft - tubeliners mostly - to be so technically accurate and systems intensive to the prototype that it can take up enough computing cycles to reduce FPS to a slideshow - unless they unload some of the simulator graphics settings to offset that impactā€¦
