I have already installed MSFS2020 on my laptop over Wi-Fi and it took about 5 hours to download the 90+ GB.
I’m now on a brand new Windows 10 desktop PC and the download speed in the Content Manager is terrible and keeps pausing and resuming over and over.
Both installs are the version through Xbox Game Pass.
I have FIOS 75/75 internet but this download keeps going between 25 mbps and almost 0 every few seconds. I’ve been trying to download off and on for over 24 hours and it is only 15GB or so into the big 90 GB download.
I have tried all the things people have said online like below but nothing helps:
- Use WiFi.
- Use ethernet.
- Run netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=normal
- Pause and reboot.
- Change to Google DNS.
- Turn off Windows Firewall (I don’t have any other security software running other than standard Windows 10).
On the screenshot, you can see that a normal speed test gives me 75/75 speed, but the throughput for MSFS is horrible.
When I initially downloaded the MSFS2020 app through the Microsoft Store/Xbox app (about 1 GB), it downloaded very fast at 77 mbps.
Any help would be appreciated.

you can copy the data via external harddrive or LAN connection from the Laptop to the PC.
You only have to use the directory you chose for your install to copy the files in
This seems related to MS local peering in your country. I am in South Africa and stays below 10mbit (on 100mbit fibre) via content manager.
I’m in the US and I’m not using any sort of VPN.
What path/directories would I copy on the laptop and then how would I re-point them on the desktop PC?
Interestingly, if I do the opposite of what everyone else is saying on the Internet for this issue, and set this configuration in the command line:
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
Then the download speed is lessened down to about 5mb/s, but it is consistent and is not spiky. Maybe a constant 5 mb/s is better than a continuous cycle of 32 mb/s to zero over and over and over? I can’t tell.
See screenshot.
At 5mbit the installation will take almost 2 days.
New update just landed, first couple of ‘patches’ was slow, but now getting full speed with the rest.
My download is still working, after 13h only 4,6gb. Why such big file in one piece?
