Very Slow Start-Up - Will This Help You!

Very recently it’s taken 10 minutes to start and the first time boot just hangs. I was thinking the problem was with the 5 update. However, I don’t think that was the problem. I have discovered something that might help others, so here it is.

Installing Fly-By-Wire (about the same time as I updated MSFS) for the A320Neo I got a prompt to update my liveries because they were not compatible with with the V0.6.1 version. I did that.

I noticed that Task Manager was reporting usage of my graphics card (2080Ti) as 98% on the splash screen of MSFS as it just hung there. Weird?

I looked in the Community folder and all my a32nx liveries had not replaced the original but installed beside them. The community folder now contained above 1000 items. I deleted all the non-a32nx liveries and got the contents down to 403 items.

Now, the start-up works every time and much quicker.

Several 3rd party items, freeware and pay ware, are install in the community folder, so, I ask the question. Is the community folder content limited?

Seems like it to me.

Nope, but it is the community folder that is responsible for long startup times. Every time the simulator is loaded, it stays on ‘checking for updates’ whilst the contents of the community folder are loaded into the sim. If I empty the community folder the sim loads in one-and-a-half minutes, but with my community folder full it takes 5-minutes.

I’m sure it could be programmed differently, but that’s the way it is. The only way to improve startup times is to only keep the the items you intend to use for that flight in the community folder or use an add-ons manager.
