VFR map question - how to?

So I see the slider for line map and gps tracking on the vfr map. However, I can’t tell what these are used for. Have been looking everywhere. Can anyone please help?

GPS makes the map follow the aircraft.

The lines I believe are a way of indicating the terrain below. The closer the lines are to each other, the steeper the terrain. I’m not 100% on that last, but from what I remember the last time I tried it, it seemed to make sense.
