VFR Planning/Map Question

I’m currently getting experience on VFR flying methods on local routes using the initial Cesna and I have a couple doubts:

  • It’s possible to get the VOR beacons frequency after the planning phase on the globe screen?

  • If I select VOR to VOR method why I’m still seeing my current position and direction route on the VFR map? (Taking into account that I didn’t select the GPS method and the Cesna doesn’t have GPS integrated if I’m not mistaken)I thought that the appeal of this method is the need of using the Navigation tools and signal beacons to reach your destination but if I need/want to check the map it reveals your current position and correct route. In my opinion this takes away the challenge, and the fun, of this method of navigation. It’s not posible to see the VFR map without this information?I have this doubt also when I want to navigate only using radials, time, and geographic landmarks (freeways, rivers, coasts, etc, like in the last tutorial). It’s not posible to compare what you see with any map without spoiling the position/route.

Don’t you think that VFR flight would be more fun if the position and route information on the VFR map is hidden based on the route method selected or the airplane used? Or at least, that you can select to not see this information in the same manner that you can select to hide the VFR map on the options of the top buttons bar.I would preffer the first option because if you fail in your navigation I think this “I’m lost” feeling would be awesome if you don’t have the temptation/possibility to open or reactivate the VFR map to solve your situation during the flight.

You could just set your start and end airport as the same and then go flying to where ever you want

Well, nothing at all forces you to open the VFR map in the game. It’s sort of a crutch for folks who didn’t plan things out well enough in advance. If you object to its functionality, don’t use it and instead use paper or iPad charts. If you’ve tried any of the bush trips, you’ll find neither route nor your own plane shown on the VFR map, so there it’s like you want.

If you are flying VFR, why do you need a map?

What? Trolls already? lmao … But seriously, that cannot possibly be a real question?
It’s the same as saying no driver needs a map and ships don’t need depth charts.

As BulletHead says, Hinochino, you are the one who is checking the map. It doesn’t do it on it’s own!
Maybe use google earth or real printed maps, on paper for example, and see if you can work out where you are from the landmarks. It seems a little strange to ask for the sim to be changed just because you cannot resist looking at the built-in map !?!?

Alternatively, just like in real life, you can always turn on the radio and ask ATC where you are, and where you need to point to get to A. If you want to go back to the olden days, good luck! I know of at least two aircraft stuck in glaciers because they didn’t know where they were.

Yeah, I must be out of my mind to ask to only use resources in game. I’m only saying that would be nice to have the possibily to configure your own missions exactly like the bush ones.

I knew that I was going to get the “then don’t do that” answers but this is just ridiculous. I don’t play a videogame to set my own rules, I want that the software give me all the limitations to make a good challenge and all the tools to overcome them.
You are so complacent about this Early Access Asobo’s BingMap Explorer Simulation.

Unfortunately the in game map is practically worthless. I recommended early on to use actual sectional charts and IFR charts. Could be a licensing issue, I don’t know. I keep skyvector up on one monitor and use that. If I was currently flying in real life again, I’d probably be using foreflight and use that.
Flying around sightseeing is fun but I like to use the sim for actual navigation and IFR practice. It’s lacking in that department right now.

To those saying why do you need a map for VFR flight has never flown a plane. From your first flight in a real plane you better have a chart in your lap.
