Virtual ATC Course | Monday Night Series | Part 4

Hello folks!

We continue our ATC Course tonight with Lesson 4!

Overview:
Tonight continue to practise what we learned from lesson 2 and 3 and work on stages 5,6,9,10. The idea here is to take a slow approach to the practical side of communicating with ATC, taking notes, planning our route and keeping control of our aircraft.

Stage 1 – Obtain the ATIS
We complete our pre-flight checks and turn on the battery and radios. Using the inbuilt ATC in MSFS – we will tune into Shannon Airports ATIS on 130.955. Take note of the Information letter, weather, active runway and the QNH along with other instructions.

Stage 2 – Contact ATC
We tune to Shannon Ground on 121.800 and request clearance for circuits and engine start

Stage 3 – Startup and Request Taxi
We start up our engine and check our temperatures and pressures. When ready to taxi we call up ATC

Stage 4 – Taxi
With our instruction noted, we check our charts and start our taxi to the runway. We complete a run-up check and once we arrive at the Hold Short line - we complete the lesson by contacting ATC.

New lessons for tonight:

Stage 5 – Departure
We contact Shannon Tower and await our instructions

Stage 6 – Fly the circuit
For this lesson we will do 1 x circuit. Take off and climb to 500ft and then turn left 90’ and continue a climb to 1000ft. Then its time to turn left again 90’ and maintain heading, speed and altitude. This is the downwind leg

Stage 7 & 8 will be skipped for tonight

Stage 9 – Full Stop Landing
Once we arrive on the downwind leg its time to call the tower and let them know we want a full stop landing

Stage 10 – Taxi to Parking
Once landed we need to exit the runway and make our way back to the apron. For this lesson we will vacate the runway at Taxiway C .
Once we have vacated the runway – we will call Shannon Tower and once handed over to Ground we request taxi clearance back to parking.

Objective:
To communicate our intentions to ATC, receive and readback instructions, carry out the requested tasks and maintain control of our aircraft.

This will all be deployed using our Discord Voice Channels.

Important

Depending on the number of pilots - we may use multiple MSFS Servers.

For example - the default multiplayer server will be SE Asia.
