As most of you probably know, Stream Deck Users now have the ability to convert their Stream Deck profiles to a Virtual Stream Deck (or create new profiles) that you can see on your desktop. With regards to MSFS, honestly, in desktop view I don’t see a huge benefit. But if there was a way to dock a Virtual Profile in VR - for me - that would be massive. Does anyone know a way to do that?? GSX profiles, camera views, macros … that could be cool.
This would indeed be an awesome feature if it were possible. Unfortunately I pretty much certain that it isn’t with the tools we presently have at our disposal. FSDesktop allows for the display of a window whilst in VR. The downside is that it is only a display of the window and it doesn’t let you click or interact with it in any way. The author I believe tried to do this but in the end found it impossible and gave up. Still a useful app but limited.
However I would love to be wrong and if anyone does know how it could be achieved please do let us know…
Yeah - I’ve looked for days and haven’t seen anything. May be a good question for the SDK group. I asked ChatGPT if it was possible and she said yes followed by pages of details that might as well been a foreign language. lol
I use an old iPad with spacedesk, then put virtual stream deck buttons on the new screen. Touch works great
I use OpenKneeboard in combination with Windows Powertoys Crop and Lock Reparent feature. A little bit fiddly but it works fine once you get the hang of it.
I have Powertoys, but I’m not familiar with Crop and Lock - but I am definitely going to look into it. Thanks!
You probably don’t even have to use the crop and lock feature, you can select the entire application window to show in VR. For me I have the Stream Deck Plus, so I do a crop of either the normal Stream Deck app window or a crop of the SPAD.next window.
Problem for you will probably remain how to interact with it whilst in VR.
There are indeed a couple of different ways to view application windows in VR. As I mentioned earlier I use FSDesktop which is a bit more sophisticated than OpenKneeboard and is by the same developer. The problem arises when trying to interact with the mouse.
I found OpenKneeboard too fiddly and with FSDesktop you can select whichever window you want and move it around easily. I usually put mine on my seat.
True, FSDesktop is indeed more versatile in that sense, but FSDesktop is not free and OpenKneeboard is. Depends if you want to invest in a specific solution.
