Visual degradation on Xbox

I’m creating this thread to bring the developers’ immediate attention to the somewhat poor state the Xbox version is in visually.

Just because a small handful of people were having issues with the game such as CTDs and black avionics, Asobo has noticeably scaled the game back visually.

Ground textures are blurry with pixels shimmering all over the place in areas of thick mesh and fauna.

The photogrammetry detail doesn’t load in fully until you’re almost right in top of objects. Runways and ground textures start to look blurry after take off…

I can go on and on. None of these issues were present on Xbox a few SUs ago. In fact SU15 beta was among the best experiences ever and in a previous SU, I think 12, 13 or 11, it looked and performed flawlessly.

There’s is absolutely no chance at all that I’ll be buying any more marketplace add-ons let alone even try FS24 via Gamepass.

Unacceptable standard. I have purchased the game along with dozens of add-ons. I want it restored to the way it looked when Series X launched. I can literally count the number of times I have seen black avionics or experienced CTDs. Not Asobo’s doing if some marketplace add-ons hog too many resources or aren’t fully optimised.

The game never stuttered with heavy weather effects or while panning the camera around. Why is that now a thing on Series X?

This game in its current state is in NO way utilising the Series X’s full horsepower. Even frequently criticized games like FM23, Starfield and Ride 5 look better.

It is beggars belief that they’re not opening up beta testing to try and fix this memory issue that’s so clearly on the Xbox x as well as the S. I’ve never had such bad out of focus textures that stretch outside this terrible LOD. Yeah the new PG looks good because it’s properly been implemented to allow for a larger draw but as soon as you leave the PG area the decreased LOD is clear and obvious.
This issue is 100% to do with the memory management system, not server related, as I’ve had to for the first time since the beginning of mfs use only default planes. However, out of interest I took the Pmdg up, just to see, and the LOD and blurry ground textures was horrendous. This is a clear indication that it’s a memory issue because it does run better in the default planes. Like I said I’ve never ever had any issues like this before. I’ve been flying from the begging of mfs and always used the Pmdg when it first got released and never, not once, had any cdt, or black screens or blurry / out of focus ground textures. Then this horrendous last update came out and it crushed all the joy out of simming. I’ve only joined this forum because of the last update.
And it’s true more people are moving over to pc. I don’t and I won’t go that way, I’ve been there before all through the prepared 3d days and it was painful. PC’s are a headache. I certainly wanna stick with the Xbox but it’s loosing its appeal.

I totally agree. It’s ripped the heart out of the game.

I just feel so disheartened mate. Sad, frustrated and angry at the same time after having invested SO much time effort and money into the game only to be left with this level of “so-so” visual fidelity.

The only way to bring anyones “immediate attention” is to create a support ticket with many many others to back you up. Wont be noticed in here just as the other 3 werent either

Yup, it’s really sad! :pensive: I’ve written a small novel in this thread, with many visual examples. :open_book::books:

Yeah, I echo with everything that has been mentioned here. I’ve spoken about this in many threads that joy is being sucked right out of it. The visual degradation on the Xbox x has been dramatic since the last update and it wasn’t like asobo wasn’t being warned. People were calling this out throughout the beta testing but this seemingly fell on deaf ears. what a mistake.

For me, it seems asobo are desperately trying to facilitate those who want to pack out their sim with add-ons and why wouldn’t they it’s a huge revenue income. But at what cost? Well, that’s clear and evident, the visual fidelity, it’s being stripped clean out of the sim because of this memory management system.

I certainly will not venture into market place again.

And another thing that brings the visual degradation into question is when they release the new PG that’s been very well optimised allowing for a large draw distance but when you fly out of it the ground textures look awful and over saturated and really really blurry, especially outside the LOD.

We have to keep this issue alive. Keep reminding them that we haven’t excepted it. It needs to be fixed.

I want to know why you put the word “sorry” in your title.

What are you apologizing for?!

Look at these three vids e.g.

There’s literally photogrammetry objects and patches of textures loading right underneath me or in front of me even though I fly NYC every day with RC set to 64gb! I’m on a dedicated 75mbps fiber optic connection.

Support ticket? But then they’ll ask me to file a bug report. This is not a bug but something they have done on purpose which needs to be reversed!

If this is some dirty tactic to get me to buy FS24, nope, not falling for it. THIS game needs to be optimised first in order for me to even consider buying or trying out FS24.

What is crazy is this is supposed to be an Xbox exclusive showcase product.

What message does it say about Xbox now?

I am no longer even recommending this game on online MSFS20 groups as it is an embarrassment to the Series X. There are other games absolutely owning FS20 in terms of visual fidelity and consistency. It used to be the other way around!

Btw, why does it say in the Insider app that MSFS20 SU15 beta is available? There’s even a Join button below it.

So, they pretty much ruined it for everybody by dialing back the visuals just to get rid of a few CTDs or black avoinics.

What a letdown.

What they should be doing is optimising the living daylights out of this game on both platforms and simply not allow add-ons on the market that make the game wonky.

[Moderator edit: please do not tag forum staff] Tagging you here so this can be taken to the devs ASAP! Please don’t make me create a separate thread!

You can join the beta at anytime. It’s the same build number as the live currently. If you “enroll” it will be ready to go for SU16 beta, and you can stay enrolled in the program until you manually leave.

Oh I see. Thought so as much. Maybe a ray of hope awoke in me, thought it would take me back to the best SU15 beta version because that was honestly brilliant.

Hello @Batterby76,

Zendesk tickets are for requesting troubleshooting help and technical support, not for sharing feedback. Please use the forums for that.

Our team does our best to read every post on the forums. With respect to the reduction in Xbox graphical quality since Sim Update 15, we have logged that as a bug in our system (see link below which we have tagged with bug-logged ), and the panel of Jorg, Seb, and Martial have also previously discussed this on one of the recent monthly developer livestreams.

Thanks,
MSFS Team

I’m on xbox X. Overall is fine to me. The only part that I agree on that I want to see fixed is LOD. Ie downtown Chicago (or other) the textures only appear & stay appeared if you’re right near it. Within a few miles at best. Besides that, all is fine & I’m excited for 2024

They vaguely went over this. I would hardly call it a discussion. Apparently we are waiting on Xbox teams to fix the GDK so Asobo’s new “memory management” works. During this they also stated they didn’t even know it was happening on series x. It was also mentioned that they will “play” with the sliders on Xbox and see what they get. Maybe stop playing and fix it to what it was.

I sure hope you all are noticing all of us that started on Series X, purchased a Series X specifically for MSFS2020… are now moving to PC. Because of these “upgrades” (regressions) and the months it takes to fix them.
