My last flight “attempt” probably 2 months ago started exactly like this. I did, however, rage quitted the d*** thing. Haven’t touched the sim ever since and never looked back. No regrets.
I will seriously try 2024 when it comes out though. I’m already preparing myself for anorher dissapointment. Hope i’m wrong.
I’d have skipped buying my Xbox and invest in a proper PC setup if I knew from the beginning that performance on console would be this low. It feels like a waste of money now bc I bought the Xbox specifically for flight sim. It’s not like I expected mad performance… but I’m flying default planes, using default settings, with no mods, no extra options turned on (e.g. traffic, airport life off) and constantly experience crashes. This after replacing thermal paste on a two month old brand new console… just ridiculous.
I’ve uninstalled the last 2 world updates (UK & Germany/Austria/Switzerland) as the Xbox just isn’t cut out for them. Too many instances of no runway lights (on series X), stutters and dodgy textures; all of this in ‘default’ aircraft (A20N v2 and 747-8i)
I also moved from console to a high-end PC and I immediately noticed the differences in the experience particularly the loading in of photogrammetry and the lighting. The vanilla experience is otherwise quite similar, to be fair.
Its getting worse again, model matching is right out the window.
I held a developer group flight, as I product test for said developer I own every product they produce and each additional livery pack for these products
As you can see I and the other participants could only see 1 additional aircraft from the model they were using.
FS as far as xbox is concerned is no longer a good multiplayer experience
Having had really poor TLOD and draw distance for quite some time, I have just done a complete uninstall/reinstall.
Majorly surprised to now see far, far better textures, draw distance and overall performance.
I’ve even got Flow, Sim FX and Realistic Tree Height (which I didn’t before) with seemingly no penalty to performance.
I haven’t installed all the aircraft I had before (not necessarily fewer planes, just different ones I didn’t have installed prior to the fresh install). Same add on airports which include quite a few from Burning Blue.
The only thing I can think is that:
Either MS have changed something for the better.
I had a plane installed that caused a problem.
Planes I haven’t installed again:
JF Hawk
FSS P2012
JF Arrow
IFE Tornado
I’m going to see what happens in the coming days, then I’ll re-install the above add ons to see if anything untoward happens.
I now have 125k posts read at this time of writing and I’ve still never seen a mod or a Dev tell us Xbox simmers to make a full reinstall.
Again, why are we expected to lower our expectations so low for something that works months ago now?
I’ve spent the last 4 months troubleshooting and testing different scenarios rather than enjoying the last few months and achievements we’ve made with 2020, instead of rejoicing in what we had I’m spending less time flying where I love. Either because of SU15’s abysmal LODs or a botched WU18 taking Switzerland from us. The experience on Series X has become a blurry nightmare of popping objects, details, terrain and blurry runways with taxiway signs arriving just when you do. SU15 should have never been released without the adequate GDK from the Xbox teams. This was a huge step backwards and a huge mistake from MS/Asobo. It has lowered my opinion of them so low I don’t trust a thing they tell us good or bad now. Such a sour taste.
I agree. Turning every option off is not a viable solution, especially when it was working really excellent before they reverted back. Now we are left with a less than ideal Sim.
I hope they can get it back to where it was. It had so much promise.
It astounds me how much of a difference your choice of airplane and your geographical location (I guess???) can make. I keep really enjoying my flights in the default C152 Aerobat. Scenery is sometimes surprisingly bad but I really think thats just a matter of old tech not working well with newer code. Scenery is often surprisingly good.
I have done some experimentation to improve the visual quality which kind of worked.
Uninstall the game. Then do a full reinstall including offline world. Now, install only the World Updates one by one. Keep your rolling cache at the default 8GB value.
Do not install the City updates or any free add-ons that are not required to run the game. Re-install any third party planes you want, that’s it.
The visual quality improved for me slightly. Performance is smoother. More detail in photogrammetry areas and cleaner ground textures including sharper looking runways at height.
Some problems are still there, however: at really high altitudes, the photogrammetry will load around your plane in sections or tiles as you pan the camera around. Detail loads in late on photogrammetry POIs - in London e.g. or Paris, NYC, etc.
Worth a shot, it has improved the experience for me, might do the same for you.
I don’t even bother anymore on XB. Even a simple aircraft like the Skyhawk gives me total black screens once I’ve been in outside view a couple of times. It seems linked with the mouse somehow, as if I right-click and drag around to pan inside the cockpit, after a few seconds all the screens come back on until I release the right click. The mouse has no other bindings, just strange
I’ve re-downloaded Aero Fly FS2 an FS4 and using them now temporarily. I haven’t touched MSFS for 2 weeks. Not sure about 2024 now with the recent server issue again and the continuous rumors of more server dependency. Doesn’t bode well…I’m getting worried
I spoke to Microsoft at the fsexpo. They know the issue and are aware.
As a concerned developer for Xbox console users, I brought it up, thinking it was a user issue. Unfortunately, the memory issue persists more robustly after each mandatory update.
How do I feel the pain? I own an Xbox S, and I use it. I’ve been unable to utilize the Caravan, and the 787-8 has been impossible. However, if you look at previous Twitch stream highlights, the 787-8 performed well on the Xbox S (before the mandatory June update). On top of it all, we started receiving many emails a few months ago regarding performance issues.
Anyway, I wanted to reply directly to you and publicly tell you that I appreciate your posts.
One would hope that as they are aware of the issue and that is persistent that they would root out the cause and find a final solution instead of piling on update after update that just increase the severity.
If any other tradesman or company caused such persistent problems with their products and services they would be held accountable to rectify the situation as soon as possible, certainly not be allowed to charge their customers for an upgrade or replacement product. In the real world this would ruin a company’s reputation and most definatly diswade customers from repeat business.
As 24 is supposedly sharing the same “world” as 2020 this does not bode well for console customers either on series X and especially series S
