Visual degradation on Xbox

It got your immediate attention tho

Xbox X is $430 give or take.

A good PC is gonna be $2000.

There’s reason for people avoid the PC even if curious on it like me.

That’s not the point. The point is that the sim was running extremely well on Xbox in the early days so we know it’s no fault of the Xbox it’s down to the dev team who’ve stripped the visual life out of the sim in favour for memory for the allowance of addons.

Me too.

But I’ve been told that System Updates designed to alter Xbox performance and fidelity don’t affect PC users, so I’m trying to find out what’s wrong with my PC that’s causing this behavior.

Idk I’ve been using Xbox for over a year and it’s fine

PC may have more function ability but at a high cost and at time consuming frustration trouble shooting, drivers and more. With console, it’s plug n play. Tho unfortunately at expense of missing out on some cool add ons.

There’s always something.

I must admit, I’ve been taking a bit of a break from the SIM just lately. I’ve had a lot of work to do at home and on holiday next week for 10 days. It’s just so inconsistent from one day to the next. If it is a server issue, then sort it out, because it’s been going on far too long now.
What flights I have done the last week have been absolute garbage. I’m having the usual pyramid blobs that resemble buildings and very poor draw distances. I had black avionics in the V2 Neo for the first time yesterday, with massive stuttering, and the plane seemed to have a mind of it’s own afterwards. This is totally unacceptable and needs sorting out now, not in 6 months time.
I don’t have much hope for FS24 to be honest, as they haven’t even got the current version working properly yet!
I must admit though, when things are working well, the SIM is superb, but it’s very rare just lately, and becoming rarer. I just can’t understand why it’s so different from one day to the next.

I suppose it is reassuring that PC users are also experiencing the same, even with high end setups!

You’re missing the point again.

This has been bugging me for quite some time and it’s my biggest worry about MSFS24.

The sim shouldn’t look like this. Textures used to be so crisp and clear.

The Xbox issues are exactly why I made the jump to PC. The majority of problems disappeared, practically overnight.

But I do think it’s unfair to compare MSFS to other games. Because it is no ordinary game, and every iteration has been plagued by bugs few other titles suffer from.

Yes, it SHOULD work out of the box on console. But it doesn’t. And nothing seems likely to change in the next couple of years. Some might grimace at the idea that you must go PC if you want the hassle-free experience but it’s the harsh truth.

Asobo did well bringing the most complex flight simulation experience ever made to console. But they’re not miracle workers. Hopefully they’ve learned from their MSFS experience and can transfer that new knowledge over to the new sim.

Judging by a lot of the threads on this forum I don’t know if I’d call PC hassle free

But in all seriousness, unlike other complex games, the sim is trying to stream scenery from a server that thousands of other users are also trying to stream and I think that’s half the battle here. The more popular the sim gets, the bigger the problem

This has happened before. A slightly different LOD, “Bug” for Series X a couple years ago. I imagine it will be fixed in the next update.

So cue the outrage and promises to never play or buy from them again.

But it will be fixed. Opt in for Beta if you want to see the fix faster.

Thankfully MSFS 2024 looks like it is much better optimized for the Xbox systems, so I hope this will soon be a thing of the past. They knew what bottlenecks they had in 2020 and it looks like they have been addressed. Fingers crossed.

As a new Series X user, thanks for the update. I’m sure MS will fix the latest bug and I like that for Xbox users that 2024 will be even better. Should I wait on 2024 or go ahead and purchase 2020 at this point?

That is totally up to you but 2020 is pretty well ironed out at this point and a lot of fun if you like sims. I am on Game Pass so I don’t have to buy these games.

Thanks for quick reply. I’m on game pass ultimate and can use basic MSFS free but have to pay for the upgraded versions, or am I missing something?

You have it correct.

I think theres a lot of different things going on. First, it seems they have a new style of PG designed to work really well with (Im guessing) DX12. The older PG just doesnt work well with the newer drivers and code and so they are updating all of it and also adding to it. In addition to that, its not the same sim it was a few years ago… it really has had substantial avionics updates that I think most of wanted and appreciate and then theres things like CFD which do appear to be good things.

And, finally, as if server issues weren’t enough, it appears that both XBox and the sim itself will happily update while you are flying and this can cause degraded graphics (or so it appears to me based on my todays experience at Leeds where buildings were bad but then later in another locale things were fine and I discovered the marketplace had updated itself during that time).

I really do wish though that if scenery can become crisp and clear that it would just stay crisp and clear while I am ANYWHERE in the vicinity and stop this going blurry crud.

I’m on series X too…it’s frustrating when the LOD is so poor at some third-party and hand crafted airports that even the jetway connected to your aircraft isn’t fully rendered. Sometimes nearby terminals are only partially rendered. A shame because MSFS beauty is most of the attraction.

This is around Barton air base. Look at the photogrammetry objects..they all look like large and medium sized scarecrows.

Proceeded to land at Barton.. and a large hanger along with Gumby-looking flat textured cars popped right up a few hundred feet underneath me!

I’m currently running with live traffic off and all the sliders reduced to 70, fauna reduced to 40. The LOD in the game is just plain bad. It looks as if they took it from Ultra texture detail and LOD straight to Medium.

Really poor experience every time I play this game. And then there’s the BAD aliasing over the trees, mountains, runways, fields, etc
