VKB rudder cross-talking with joystick input?

I’ve been using the VKB t-rudder w/ black box (previous version) since msfs launch with no issues. Last week I upgraded my warthog stick to a vkb gunfighter 3 (with the newer version of black box) and now occasionally my rudder pedals will start affecting my pitch and roll. This usually happens on take-off for some reason, which causes the plane to start bucking up and down on roll out, slamming the tail into the ground (even without extra cargo weight). My hand is off the stick and making slight movements in the rudder makes the yoke go crazy (c172) in both pitch and roll, in both directions. It totally spazzes out. If I release the rudder, the spazzing will stop or dramatically decrease, although the yoke might rest in a disoriented state (hard left and forward for example), or it might rest normally (straight and level). It’s the strangest thing.

I found that if I alt-tab out, it fixes it, at least temporarily. I don’t even have to put focus back on the game (I can still use the hotas controls when the msfs program is not focused which is normal. I have a second monitor and often fly with the focus on a browser window instead.) Sometimes I can fly for a while without it coming back, sometimes it comes back within minutes.

I have flashed the black box to the latest firmware. I also fly IL-2 and haven’t had this issue yet so it seems it’s just msfs.

My next step is to put the vkb config program on my second monitor while I’m flying so I can see if the stick is actually showing input while this is happening. If it doesn’t, then I think it’s pretty conclusive that it’s an msfs problem. In any case, any ideas?

You may want to try recalibrating the axis (in the vkbconfig). It took me a few tries when i did the same exact thing as you…yesterday lol.

I recalibrated several times. Does the VKB Device config need to be open during normal operation? I’m assuming no.

No, I just noticed that the rudder was off in the game, closed it and recalibrated all the axis.

Are you using one black box for the rudder and stick?

Yeah, just one. Flew last night and it didn’t happen. I suppose I should be thankful it doesn’t happen all the time.

Update: My joystick issues continued to degrade and I started having issues in IL-2 last night. I found that there is a bad connection in the 200mm extender so this turns out to not be an MSFS issue.

You do know the secondary effect of rudder is roll. As you put in rudder the aircraft yaws and the advancing wing creates more lift and the aircraft will roll
