Volcano effects in msfs-files?

Hi, there is a strange “Volcano.spb” file in the following path:

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Official\OneStore\fs-base-effects\VisualEffectLibs\Asobo\Base

Also the file format is the same like “Contrails_RIBBON.spb” (.spb), so maybe that is a particle structure for volcanos!

EDIT: Btw. the file is in the VisualEffects folder, so it might be smoke or fire.

Cheers.

Maybe a remnant from FSX to make Kilauea puff out some smoke every now and then.

Or beginning of visual effects work that has been ongoing?

Did notice that moving boats now leave a wake effect behind them that looks similar to the wake left behind the Icon A5 on landing.

We might even get Old Faithful (Yellowstone) back

I hope they include ash clouds following volcano activities. Ash clouds would do cause a lot of diversions and changes to standard flight plans.

They’ve said in the Q&A that they’re working on effects like contrails, smoke, etc. They just can’t add them yet due to the performance cost. I doubt those are FSX remnants, but rather unimplemented code they’re working on for a future release.

Knowing the state of the current ATC “intelligence”, it would probably divert our path right to it and set us on a descent into the crater. lol

Eye candy that may be enabled with DX12. Q&A and repeatedly said it’s for additional effects and not core sim performance.

Interesting. I was just doing a bit of testing and resetting after a fresh installation of the sim and whilst sat on the ground at my local airport (EGNT) I watched an A320 take-off and I could have sworn I saw a speckly effect following it that looked suspiciously like exhaust smoke or maybe a turbulence effect. Didn’t take much notice at the time but this thread has made me wonder. I’d got the graphics set at high with a few less important settings turned down to medium to help the FPS.

Same here, no wake effects anymore. I did notice some ocean textures now, improved water. Maybe the wake effects interfered with that and have been temporarily turned off. Just a guess.

Volcano effects are badly need, since the most active volcanoes have very bad textures due to always being obscured in a clouds of smoke. In the game it’s a clear empty mess.

I’m looking for scenarios like this one, with mountains and mountain ranges, I think it’s really cool.

That will come in time. Like I and others have said above. Once they do a proper implementation of DX12, we’re going to see a lot more eye candy in the sim.

I visited Mount Fagradalsfjall, Iceland.

There is an eruption going on at this moment.

I would not object to a 10 minutes update (or a 10 euro marketplace pay) for some particle model that shows more beauty ! Especially at night !

Live video fragment… this could be there for the next few years… so it will be a tourist attraction.
