Perhaps I am missing something, but maybe not. Looking for suggestions or help in the way you guys do it.
When I fly VOR to VOR in P3D it’s pretty simple - just like in MSFS, you can use the Flight Planner to build your plan and go… When you bring up the NavLog, it shows you all relevant info (INCLUDING the Nav frequencies for the VOR stations on your way!!!)…
When I do the same in MSFS, I am currently forced to copy down the frequencies I will be tuning into my phone notes while in the map view, because once I hit that Fly Now button, there is no way for me to pull up the Navaids frequencies for my route! The NavLog only provides the compass headings and that’s pretty useless - it should really supply the frequencies.
Am I missing something or is this really not implemented well? How do you guys deal with accessing frequencies for your Nav waypoints?
Im using sky4sim (payware). Totally indispensable tool for checking weather, maps and VOR, NDB, ILS frequencies enroute and in game too.
It doesn’t pull in your current flight plan though, but I’m not using it for that.
I don’t understand why all navigation functions that were present in FS9 have been lost in MSFS, is not only a simple navlog but also the interactive map is not here.
Well you could consult real life charts, Skyvector has only basic VFR map coverage outside of the US but it still shows VORs around the world.
I also just like Little Nav Map primarily. You can build flightplans in there and export them to the sim and it’ll show all your frequencies and so forth but you either have to tab out, use it on a second monitor or network it over to a laptop or Windows tablet. I don’t mind tabbing out so I just do that. You can also hide the plane position icon and trail as well if you don’t wanna instantly know your location.
I think the reason they got rid of it is that the glass cockpit flyers need up to date information to be fed into the FMC. FS9 and FSX etc had data that was fixed at one point in time.
But the navaid frequencies are in the sim, you can pull them up through various Garmin and FMC units so it really shouldn’t be a problem to also display them in the in game toolbar navlog or even in the toolbar map. It’s just a weird oversight.
Yeah I agree it’s just missing functionality. The sim has all the needed info already and shows it in the flight planner but then doesn’t show it in the flight. Hopefully it gets fixed one day.
I see the solution to this as something VERY simple, and I imagine it wouldn’t be terribly difficult to implement. Since the NavLog is generated from your flight plan, it simply needs a field with the frequencies populated.
I do have a Navigraph subscription, naturally. My point is that I don’t want to tab out of the sim to another window. I don’t want to use anything external. I just want a NavLog that isn’t useless.
I do hope they remedy. I am glad to see I am not the only one that feels this is something that really should have been there. This and the ATC are the two things about MSFS that rub me the wrong way considering Prepar3D does it SO well and that’s based on FSX and from what I have heard, they never changed those things - so it’s an FSX thing (I never used FSX so I can’t be sure)… So if that was there and they obviously used some of the code base for MSFS, why didn’t they lift the great things verbatim? Like ATC that vectors you to the runway and the frequencies in NavLog?
I actually pull my desktop into my VR environment, and place it high left, where I can get what I need with my goggles on. It may not be perfect, but it works.
The absence of this feature is baffling. Another one that annoys me is the lack of persistent settings on the world map. I have to click the show more button and turn navaids on every time I want to plan a flight from the world map. It’s nuts.
Agree it should be in the sim. But after I’ve started using Little Navmap, I wouldn’t trade it for anything - built in, or payware. This may be the single best piece of freeware I’ve ever used.
It’s quite intuitive. It offers a wide range of features and can be very deep, but it’s pretty easy to use if you only want to use the maps for routing and consulting navaids and fixes (can use both the sim and navigraph databases). It’s the single best piece of software addon for flight simming, in my opinion.
