This is a great feature in MSFS to let you get a quick, up close view of your instruments in VR. It seems this does not work in all aircraft though. Carenado PC-12 for one although there may be others. Is there a way to enable this for such aircraft or are we at the mercy of the developer? Their M20R or C337 for example do support this so not sure if an oversight or some other dependency.
Interesting feature. How das this work in general?
I’ve accidentally found that if I put the mouse pointer on the screen/area I’m trying to “magnify” then right click, the view jumps to that screen/area. Sometimes. Sometimes holding the right button whilst I view then release brings me back to where I came from. Then again sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes releasing the button doesn’t return the view for quite a long time - yes probably only seconds but it feels like a long time, and sometimes clicking on the centre (wheel) button returns the view.
So my answer is “sometimes” - have no idea how or why. Using a standard MS-compatible mouse and different aircraft.
Ah interesting - thanks for the explanation…
I also have the option bound to a toggle switch on my throttle so it will hold the vr cockpit focus while I tweak controls with the mouse. Very handy and it would be good if Asobo offered this option up as a toggle instead of just a button hold.
I think it tries to jump to the nearest preset view (the ones you get with Ctrl-1 etc). So it may not work if there is not a pre-set view near where you are pointing, or if they have not been set up properly for that particular aircraft.
But I’m not sure it always works as intended.
What I find useful is that you can press the left button etc (while keeping the right button pressed) to set up the computer etc.
Something I’ve found which may not be obvious, is that VR Cockpit Focus (Zoom) will not work while the mouse cursor is active on the instruments. Move the mouse off the cockpit controls and VR Cockpit focus works ![]()
I have often wondered about why this is implemented that way. Makes no sense. Using VR focus should focus on what you’re looking at, independently of where your mouse is at. Currently you can’t VR focus if your mouse is over an instrument, and you can’t defocus either if you are in VR focus and move your mouse over to an instrument. Bizarre! VR focus is a very useful feature. Hopefully Asobo will put some effort into VR at some point!
Yes, it’s too linked to the mouse. I rebind VR focus (currently one of the buttons on the stick) but it still has that leftover mouse interaction.
As for airplanes without VR focus, they are usually 3rd party and will sometimes be fixed if you submit it as an issue to the developer. I don’t think many developers actually test in VR and get sloppy on VR focus and collision meshes.
