I think it tries to jump to the nearest preset view (the ones you get with Ctrl-1 etc). So it may not work if there is not a pre-set view near where you are pointing, or if they have not been set up properly for that particular aircraft.
But I’m not sure it always works as intended.
What I find useful is that you can press the left button etc (while keeping the right button pressed) to set up the computer etc.
