VR December Update?

I read somewhere online that VR was coming in December? Does anyone know if this is true or not? Can’t wait till it gets here. I just hope they get it right.

The VR update was announced in the recent Q and A upgrade. I believe it was marked for late December.

Cool thanks man. My oculus is standing by. I just hope my new card comes before hand, my computer is experiencing problems with that display port, unfortunately. :frowning:

December 23rd. Polygon had a news article on the Q & A announcement. The screen capture shows a Development Update Map further into 2021 than I have been able to find on the FlightSimulator.com webs:

Microsoft Flight Simulator VR to launch as free upgrade in late December - Polygon

Great news. I hope they support canted vr hmd. With parallel projections we lose a lot of performance.

According to the roadmap, Discovery Series ep 9 (VR) is due out today :grinning:

Steve

Just watched the video…unless I missed it. I couldn’t see anything about using the hand controllers to press buttons and move levers etc…I’m looking forward to trying it out but I had hoped this would be implemented.

No but you’ll be able to use the mouse, good enough for me. I can’t wait, I’ll be spending the day with my headset on with my wife barking at me to get off the computer

Using the hand controllers to manipulate switches and rotary knobs is a given.

While all other flight sims have this functionality, I don’t think Asobo would be so stupid.

I expect there to be images of human hands.

Is Asobo ‘cutting edge’ or a second rate games house always playing catch-up?

It’s great to see VR finally come out. No flight sim can be true nextgen without VR. With Direct X 12 & NVIDIA DLSS 2.1 coming, the future of VR is looking very bright and enticing. MSFS can help boosting the development of VR, and VR in turn will bring flight sim into a new era. It’s such a positive circle and a win-win situation. Keep up the great work!

No vr controller implementation… disappointed :disappointed:

Have you tried the 3D mouse yet?

No, and honestly, I think the lack of implementation of VR controllers will create a barrier to enter MSFS (maybe they want that from a secondary sales market, IDK I’m not marketing).

Instead of just needing a good computer and a vr system, they’ll also need joysticks and other peripherals (that you won’t be able to see in game). It always broke my immersion (in other FSs) because I’m constantly trying to remember where things, buttons, etc. are IRL.

I just hope a mod team picks up where they dropped the ball.

Additionally, while MSFS is a very impressive game, I’d rather play FlyInside FS (which is a dead early access game) or VTOL VR because immersion due to implementation of VR controllers is so much higher IMO.

I hope they have plans to implementation it in the future as it’s been the reason I haven’t bought MSFS 2020 yet.

Any idea what VR to get???, So many choices and I know it depends on what I want to spend but idk which VR to get?? Thanks

The NDA is dumb. All of this speculation could easily be quelled. I mean I guess it won’t matter in a few days, but I’ve already been binging on PC part orders. Not like I’m going to cancel anything unless the VR implementation is completely broken, which I’m sure it isn’t. But you can save money by not buying the VR controllers with some headsets right?

I’ve never used VR, but the idea of waving my hands around with bulky controllers trying to hit tiny switches, or manipulate the actual flight controls seems awkward. I was planning on just using my stick and throttle controls. >95% of what I do in the cockpit is on those devices. I’m a scrub VFR pilot though and not a bus driver. But maybe I’ll discover this is ■■■ backwards once I get in there, but I imagine it entirely depends on what type of flying you normally do.

What about support for canted vr displays as pimax without Parallel Projections? It would give us much better performance.

Valve steam controllers support would be great. Anyway with a good hotas we can have many buttons in our hands.

Another big thing that could help would be fixes and dynamic foveated rendering.

@SixEyELessOUIja - if your only going to use it for sims (flight, racing, space) the G2 may be the way to go. If your looking for best overall PCVR experience, I’d recommend the Index. If you want portability/flexibility and wireless look into the Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop streaming.

@SkipTalbot - You definitely can buy a VR HMD only from most companies. My personal experience from playing ED with VR injected controls and natively supported games is that the controllers never felt bulky to me. I’ve logged around more than a 1,000 hrs in vr since oculus Dev 2 kits so maybe I’m on the other side of the fence but If you have FS peripherals, great, but my point is the majority of people don’t. But the people who already have VR also have controllers for them. Each Index controller weighs less than 0.5lbs/200g. Honestly, I forget I have them on sometimes if I’m playing a game that has an intuitive control scheme and I’ll try to grab something IRL, like a drink, and end up spilling it on the ground. Lol

Additionally IIRC joysticks, throttles, etc. are hard to buy atm. Just to clarify, having the vr controller support would get rid of the need to have peripherals.

Sorry for spelling and structure I don’t see atm, I’m using my phone.
