VR eye point

When a flight starts in VR or when I switch to VR after the flight has started, the eye point is not in the correct position. I have attempted to adjust it using the camera setting menu but can’t get it in the correct position. I always have to use the keyboard to set it every time. Where can I find the default VR eye point cfg file?
BTW: the default eye point is correct in pancake mode.

You need to edit cameras.cfg. Most planes, but not all, have a separate camera definition for VR. You will find it with SubCategoryItem set to “PilotVR”.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, it’s not working. Unless I’m making the changes in the wrong place. It seems that my eye point issue is with the Cowensim R66. I change the InitialXYZ value in the PilotVR camera definition, but the eye point doesn’t change. Then to test if I’m changing the correct parameter, I did the same thing with the default C172 classic. I changed the value, but there was no corresponding change in the cockpit view. I’m making these changes in the respective aircraft camera.cfg file.
What am I doing wrong?

EDIT: What I’m doing wrong is not changing the value enough. I read somewhere that the value is in meters. It’s not. It’s in centimeters. So I wasn’t able to see a change because I was making enough of a change. Hope this helps anyone else that is having this issue.

EDIT 2: I wasn’t aware that once the change is made to the camera.cfg file that the game had to be completely restarted. You can’t just reload the flight like in DCS.

If you want to find correct xyz values, move camera with keyboard to desired position and save it with rctrl_ralt_1-9. The number key is from the main keyboard, not numpad. Now open cfg file where these custom views are stored and copy values to the main cameras.cfg.

You will find custom views config file in C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator\SimObjects\Airplanes\

There is on my PC. Maybe the folder structure is different on MS Store version of the game.

That makes sense.
I also think that the eye point save feature is limited to the pancake view, not VR. Because the VR view is just an offset of the virtual cockpit. So I think I’m stuck adjusting, restarting the game, and re-adjusting the VR xyz manually over and over again till I find the eye point that matches me. What a PITA.

You do not say which VR headset you are using.
I have a Pico 4 and can adjust the eye point quite easily just using the left controller. Okay, it doesn’t remain there when I exit the SIM, but it only takes seconds to do and works with any aircraft.

Or am I totally misunderstanding your problem?

Well, it does work for me. I used this method to create default VR camera in Airbus A300-600.

Rather than messing with files, it’s easier to just move your head around a bit and hit space bar. I have to do it with almost every aircraft - it’s just become a habit. Usually have to lean back a bit and hit space bar in order to be closer.

I can’t bother to tweak those ini files for every addon. I simply VR recenter via spacebar hotkey then I use my eye points I have mapped to my HOTAS throttle hat switch buttons until I get the desired seating position.

That’s why I chose to edit cfg file so I don’t have to go through all this every time I recentre my view or start a new flight.

I pretty well do the same thing. Center my view, then finetune it with up/down arrows for head elevation and hold alt key and use up/down arrows to move closer or farther away. Only takes me like 5 seconds to get a perfect sitting position in any aircraft.

You do not need to completely restart the sim. You have a couple of options. Load a different aircraft, then reload the aircraft you are altering. Better/easier is to enable developer mode, then you can use a menu option in developer mode to reload an aircraft which will cause the sim to read the new values you set in the camera.ini file.

That’s a great solution.
Thanks!
