VR is still massively overlooked by developers of both sims, in my opinion… But it does work! And it is amazing! But you have to take the time to set it up. Unfortunately, VR isn’t just a plug-n-play thing. I wish it were. I wish these sims put enough focus on VR to make it so you can just turn on your PC, fire up the sim, put on the headset and fly with no stutters and great clarity. But that’s not the world we live in - YET.
I don’t have the highest end system - I have an i9-9900K OC’ed to 5.0GHz and a 3080Ti… But I spent weeks researching, tweaking, experimenting, re-tuning, cursing, re-tweaking my system to get an incredibly smooth, clear experience in VR with any aircraft in almost any part of the world (even on VATSIM!).
How did I do this? With the help of a few other VR enthusiasts and hard work. We, as VR users or potential VR users, need to stick together and share our settings, configurations and tools/utilities to keep the VR momentum going. We’re like a little community within a community… outcasts almost
But in a good way! If the sim manufacturers aren’t going to make it easy to get in to VR, we need to help ourselves.
For those struggling to get VR running smooth without a 19-13900k and 4090, it’s possible! I’m not sure if I’m going to violate the rules of this forum by posting these links again, but I am going to do so in hopes that they help some folks on this thread… Mods, please remove if this is inappropriate…
Here’s a video I did a while back to try to help people with some initial settings and tools to get started in VR. This is geared toward a quest 2, but most of it can be used for other headsets (especially the MSFS settings and the OpenXR toolkit settings): MSFS | Epic VR Performance! Best VR Settings Guide Quest 2! - YouTube
Use it as a baseline and tweak from there. If anyone is still having issues, we have a little community of VR users over on the discord server (link is in the description of that video linked above) where we help each other out with issues/settings/etc… and we have been able to get lots of people from struggling with VR and ready to toss their headsets against a wall to running smooth in VR and never going back to pancake mode. Our goal is simple - help get as many people running in VR as possible. The more people successful in VR, the more attention gets paid to VR by developers like Asobo (and LR).
Don’t give up!! VR is just too epic in MSFS to give up and go back to monitors. ![]()
