VR performance dropped 50% don't know why RESOLVED

amd 9800x3d
4080 super
64 gb ddr 5 6400
reverb g2

Was getting teens to mid 20’s
Uninstalled open XR tool kit and companion app
Now getting 40 fps

That was the first 2 days after the sim came out, now I tried to play again tonight and I can’t get over 20 fps again. Changed every setting to low and again makes no difference. No idea why the VR performance suddenly went bad, tried the dlss swapper and it made no difference, flying @ 40FPS at KATL was acceptable but 20 is simply not.

Game is also now constantly crashing while changing VR settings, this did not happen the first couple days for me.

7900X3D 4090 64GB RAM here. Some days the game runs flawlessly at ultra settings 45fps some days it stutters. I know it isn’t my system. Pretty sure it’s the servers sometimes Idk

You can turn on dev mode and although you have to look outside the VR glasses you can see the bandwidth usage, if stuttering and your bandwidth is red that’s why. For me it’s not a stuttering issue rather a real FPS issue. I’ve lost 20 FPS somewhere.

Ah okay. I know my bandwidth is fine I have 800mb. I have friends with similar issues though.

RESOLVED:
I found my missing FPS. Running DLSS in DLAA mode decreased the performance by 20FPS. Also tried the DLSS Swapper but there was no improvement in using the latest DLL file. Went back to DLSS with Quality and the FPS jumped back up over 50FPS.

I thought DLAA was supposed to be faster than the other settings however that’s not my case. Quality is slightly blurred compared to DLAA, DLAA certainly looks the best but at a loss of 20FPS I can’t do it.

I had two crashes yesterday, one while changing VR settings, the other right after when enabling VR. Both times the sim crashed to a black screen in the headset and the monitor. I could not alt tab out, or use task manager to close the sim and had to shut off the PC and reboot.

A worrying development.

So I found a fix at least for me, which is simply not to change settings while in VR mode. Ctrl Tab out change the VR settings then come back in, no more crashes. If it’s crashing for you going in to VR mode that’s not going to help you much.

Prior to yesterday I have never had a crash going into VR, its been very stable going in and out of VR many times on my Pimax Crystal. I think the first crash left a setting that was buggy hence the second one. After that its been fine. I will however now only change VR settings in 2D mode.
