VR performance impact

Does anybody know if VR will impact CPU and GPU even further. So, can we expect a degrade in our fps performance? Or should our experience be close to what we have on our monitors now?

Most likely, it will be about half of what FPS you measure on a single HD monitor

with all of the fps issues around, if what you are saying is true.. most will not hit their required minimum of 30 fps.

It depends on how well optimized it is, and when DX12 comes out. VR uses two displays, but there is some single pass tech method to have it pass only once, there is DLSS which renders it at a low res but upscales it so you wouldn’t even notice, increasing performance. There are things they can do with head movement in the cockpit always being 90fps regardless what the rest of the sim is. There will be better hardware in the future, and FS can be programmed to use more cores efficiently and GPU VRAM better. These should minimize the performance hits when transitioning to VR

That would be wonderful… I am about at my limit budget wise and getting about average of 45-50 fps. If I don’t have to upgrade my computer any more, i can start saving for a VR headset.

I guarantee that you’ll need to lower your quality settings. Why? Because you need to render two view points. Vr performance is always lower than just using a screen. Please bear in mind that when fsx was released nothing would run it at an acceptable fps. This is a long term product that will improve with tech just as fsx did.

Great response.
