VR reliability woes, finally sorted (Reverb G2)

I was having endless crash to desktop problems in VR with a Reverb G2 headset. It didn’t matter what I did - non-stop crashing. But super stable in the 2D mode.

Video drivers are the latest ones provided by Apple.

Device name Apple Mac Pro 2019
Processor Intel(R) Xeon(R) W-3275M CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.50 GHz
Installed RAM 48.0 GB DDR4 2933mhz ECC
GPU AMD Radeon Pro W6800X MPX 32GB
PSU 1400w

GPU is connected in slot 1.

Edition Windows 11 Pro for Workstations
Version 21H2
Installed on ‎7/‎3/‎2022
OS build 22000.2538
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22001.1000.0

Seems having the Reverb G2 connected to the Thunderbolt ports on the back of the W6800X GPU was the culprit.

Connecting to the normal USB-C ports (on the dedicated USB card) seems to have resolved it.

I’m running now with a 28 Core, 56 thread Intel Xeon W3275M which I got this week and installed yesterday - everything is now running very, very smoothly - and now reliably. I have just managed to fly for about an hour in different locations with no crashes. Even Megeve and Courchevel with heavy weather no problems.

The details are turned up a bit as well so all the gauges look very clear and sharp. Most impressed.

Thanks to @Beulah6126 ! I was ready to abandon Flight Sim until I discovered your post.

I did experience a few more crashes which were totally random.

My setup has two 5K screens connected to the one GPU (both 5120x2880) and the Reverb G2 is also connected.

I tried disconnecting one of the 5K screens and I had a few hours of flying in VR without any crashes around Switzerland (Samedan) and Sydney (YSSY). I will keep experimenting.

It will be nice to get VR running totally stable again.
