VR-Suggestions for i9 10850, RTX 3070, HP Reverb G2

Hii all

Since some days I have massive stutters on and around airports and also massive FPS drops if my mouse cursor is not detected on starting up my flight. If the mouse is not detected, the only to get the cursor working is to my understarting, switching back to non VR-mode and then back in to VR-mode.

It would be great if you could give me a suggestion, how to get my cursor working properly direct on 1st starting up my flight in VR I’m grateful.

Since WU4 1.15.80 and the released hotfix this week, I have massive stutters on and around airports, even I haven’t changed anything on my settings. That’s why I like to request here for optimal settings here.

My PC specs are the following:
CPU: i9 10850
GPU: RTX 3070 8GB
RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600
SSD: Samsung M2 Evo Plus 970 1TB
Windows 10
VR-Headset: HP Reverb G2
Montior: Samsung 4K

I used several VR guides here already, if somebody have a proper configuration for VR graphics and traffic that would help me a lot. Currently I have set everything on high more or less. Traffic on airports is set 20-30%, road traffic 30%, ships and boats 5-10%.

OpenXR render scale: 60%
FS render scale: 100
Terrain vector data: Ultra
Buildings: high
Trees: high
Grass: med
Vol. Clouds: med
Terrain level detail: 100%

Many thanks and kind regards

I have been experiencing many similar bugs on a similar setup to you. I think this latest update has introduced many issues.

I configured my settings upon the Bang for Buck performance guide and had have no issues until the latest WU. Had the hope that the hotfix which was released yesterday will bring improvements and old performance back. :frowning: What kind of GPU du you use and is somebody out there with optimal settings for my PC specs?

It is highly apreciated from myside if somebody could help me solving my issues on and around airports and also my question regarding loosing the cursor.

Many thanks.

Give the same settings a try with the nvidia driver rolled back to 457.30 and see if its better.

May want to turn down both terrain settings also.

Rollback didn’t have any noticable improvement on fps. Whats your suggestions for decreasing the terrain settings and which are you meaning?

Many thanks. May I ask what kind of hardware and GPU du you use?

(Edit: * Added important Details)
My spec’s are nearly identical to yours:
i9 10850k
32GB 3600 DDR4
Nvidia 3060ti
*Reverb G2
*MSFS Microsoft Store Version
*Windows WMR/OpenXR
Running the latest driver from NVIDA
Game mode:Off
HAGS: on
CPU Hyperthreading: on
NVIDIA Control panel: All settings default

You don’t say what you are flying or where you are flying… both things that can have drastic impact on FPS and stuttering…

That said, I generally fly GA planes. Most recently I have been flying the DA40 on the latest bush trip. Just finished leg 12 and I have been perfectly happy with the following settings:

I do all of my VR setting test flights out of CZST, simply because it is super easy to find on the world map, and I usually load in with the SR22. With these settings at that airport and with that plane, I get between 25-35 FPS flying around that area. I can make the FPS increase by reducing some of the settings… but I’m happy with an average of 30fps and my current settings.

I’ve also used these settings to fly the Fly-By-Wire A320 from seattle to portland, and while the FPS does drop a little bit, it is still perfectly flyable (there’s some spots south of seattle that get pretty choppy)

Took the plunge on 466.11 - 2070 super - i5 9600k 5ghz Reverb G2

Working well. Smoother than 457.30.

Motion off
Hags off
Game off
Oxr 60 preview off
Taa 70
Olod 90
Tlod 90
Clouds ultra
Glass refresh high.
Default nvidia cpl

From GA bush flights to the FBW a320 IFR Jacksonville to Orlando. It was very enjoyable. Minimal stutters but very good all round with my setup.

It seems so and it is a bit strange. I flew yesterday with almost the same settings like yours from NY KLGA to Washington Dulles KIAD with almost the same settings like yours, bit lower, and had have no stutters and issues. I fly most of time airliners A32NX mod.

My current settings are the in OpenXR like you have.

TAA: 100
TVA: High
Buildings: High
Trees: High
Grass: med
OLD:: 100
Clouds: medium
TR: High
AF: 16x

Rest exactly the same. I guess it is important when switching into the VR mode which I did a bit earlier. I finished the second half of flight planning in FS-menu already in VR. In the past I switched into VR first when planning was finished before loading the flight.

Will try today increasing the cloud setting and also OLD back to 100-120.

Is it better to disable in OpenXR the preview? Whats exactly the improvement and effect btw?

How is it possible to upload pictures here in this forum from a local drive?

Many thanks for the support.

Mine is way smoother when I unistall openxr. I only use mixed reality portal.

didn’t knew that a complete uninstall could be an improvement. I thought OpenXR is essential for VR in FS2020. Would be an idea also.

If OpenXR would not be installed I have to reduce the TAA setting correct?

I have my taa between 80 an 100. It depends if I fly a small plane lika a cessna or an airliner. I also have a lot better fps when I disable multiplayer. It seems like that is a new problem with the new world update… I have an rtx 3080, 32gb ram and a i5 10600.

Open xr is being used regardless. The open xr toolkit just lets you tweak further. Eg open xr preview version, lower scaling, motion reprojection. But not using the toolkit the sim automatically adjusts the render scale based on vram availability.

Someone can tell me what is HAGS ?

Hardware Accelerated Graphics Scheduling. It’s supposed to allow the GPU to take over the video memory scheduling from the CPU, so that resources are not only saved on the CPU but the latency on the graphics card will be reduced as well. This is one of those things that sounds good in theory but people have had mixed results with it in MSFS.

Thanks :+1:

Hi Jonny

Didn’t knew that OpenXR is regardsless/useless meanwhile. This would mean OpenXR uninstall completely. Currently I have set Custom Render Scale to 60 and TAA renderscale in the sim is set to 100. If I uninstall OpenXR then the Reverb G2 has 100% resolution and then I should get the same clarity/sharpness, if I reduce TAA render scale down to 60 ? Whats your suggestion for my RTX3070 and i9 10850 system with 32GB DDR4 3600?

Would be great if you could send a reply and maybe you can mention me the settings for it. Many thanks.

So you suggest to disable GPU scheduling Mike?

terrain vector and level of detail have a big effect for me.

I have tried it both ways and I don’t see any difference either way. But I only have a GTX 1080 card. The 20xx, 30xx and Ti cards may behave differently. My advice would be to try it both ways on your system and see which one gives you the best visual results. Don’t base it purely on FPS. Make your decision on what looks good to you.

With all the constant changes I’m always tweaking for a higher frame rate for low level GA. FWIW here’s today’s settings and I’ve all the latest fixin’s. The latest WMR seems a bit wonky so I’ve dropped the CPU load.
