I am wondering if anyone knows if we will need a SteamVR account to run VR when updated? In otherwords, will we have to use SteamVR module to use the VR update?
What is a Steam VR account? Never heard of it.
I do have a Steam account and that is all you need to run VR games on Steam. If you bought MSFS2020 elsewhere, you’re probably not going to be able to Steam VR.
Depends on what headset you are using I think.
If you are using a Windows Mixed Reality headset (like the Reverb G2) then yes, you will need to have Steam (and Steam VR) running.
However, if you have an Oculus headset then you would need to have the Oculus software running.
I understand Asobo are releasing a video on the 18th regarding the upcoming VR update. I can’t wait

Thanks Steve. Yes I’m using a WMR headset (Odyssey +). I bought MSFS direct from Microsoft Store hoping to avoid the need for SteamVR when VR is implemented. But I guess no luck there. I find having to use use two portals (WMR and SteamVR) is a pain in the butt. Guess I’ll make do.
Like you, and many others, I can’t wait for VR update. It’ll be my COVID alternate existance.
Cheers all
My bad wording. I have a Steam account for XP and I am forced to use the WMR portal AND the SteamVR app or module to use VR in XP. I was hoping to avoid the need for SteamVR just cause it’s a pain in the butt if something goes wrong trying to figure out if it’s the game, the WMR portal or the SteamVR module. So be it though…I’ll gladly put up with any issues for even one minute of glory in MSFS VR!
I hate to even be excited about the VR release. I can’t trust their videos and anything that shows how it works. I wish the VR beta testers could tell us what’s actually going on with that. If it worked well it would be the best flight simming experience ever!! I’m just too pessimistic to be excited. But I want to be.
Just from the odd statements by some random people (who, in my opinion, are in the beta) on various forums, it seems hopeful that our socks will be knocked off. Given the extremely well performing platform and the stunning eye candy already I have high hopes. I have no frustrations with this sim. Very happy. Coming from X-Plane and all of its improvements, this sim is the real deal.
you will be able to run it regardless of your headset platform (WMR, Oculus, SteamVR).
I’m sure it’ll be easily integrated so the game will recognize which version of the game you have and which headset youre using without any additional set up
Thats great news, as I was under the impression that it was also an OpenXR platform that works like a glove to a hand in VR with WMR and the HP Reverb G2. Be careful not to break your NDA, but from what I am understanding, its an absolute gem, and eye candy wise, its way better than XPlane 11 VR.
all i’ll say is it’ll be worth the wait
Interesting where might we be able to watch this video.
I read that they are releasing a “discovery series’ video about the VR update . So it’ll be on the flight sim site & no doubt YouTube
