I know, MS said they are not investing in VR hardware (doesn’t mean it will never support some other brand’s hardware… I still have hope).
BUT
Look what appeared in the last update in the “controls options” menu… a VR dedicated section (this VR controls sections was not present during Xmas & New year period).
Is something slowly changing?
Anybody got any info?
As much as I wish for it to happen I wouldn’t bet a cent on it. MS announced VR compatibility for the XBX One X a couple of months before it’s release but then dumped the idea. For the Series S/X they ruled it out by saying basically VR systems are currently too bulky, not good enough and so on…so to me it appears that Microsoft is watching the development of Sony’s console VR project and as soon this really goes through the ceiling they hop on the train. I know that’s no good news for ppl like you and me and I really like a lot of how Microsoft developed XBX and Gamepass over the past two years or so. But after Kinect flopped so badly I believe they have lost confidence in fishing muddy waters.
Funfact: I sold my Kinect back then when it came with the 360 Slim because I hated how it was following my steps all the time walking through my living room. Now I wish we had it back to have head tracking for MS FS since it was way superior to Track IR. Bad timing Microsoft
did you managed to make trackIR working with it ? (mouse emulation with locked free visual?) I found my way to work with something similar, but would like to go for a more professional thing.
I have set the mouse to be always moving the head, then put an airmouse over my head, plus a standard mouse on the desk. MSFS cannot handle 2 mouse at the same time, so i need to turn them off / on with a switch. A button on my joystick is changing the mouse behaviour, from “free visual” to “mouse cursor”.
So i turn the USB switch of the mouse OFF, the USB switch of the AIRmouse ON, press the button on the joy… and i am in “head track mode”
reverse:
i turn the USB switch of the mouse ON, the USB switch of the AIRmouse OFF, press the button on the joy… and i am in “mouse cursor mode”
well, sensitivity and accurancy isn’t at best, but it’s better than nothing. another button on the joy (F1, the most easy-pressing button) will simply reset the view at the center.
No I haven’t. I had track IR on PC back in the days when I was into fsx and IL2. Now I have an imac for work only and use the xbx for gaming only. When fs2020 came to console I really was happy being able to jump on my old hobby again easily. But I like your mouse idea. I think I might figure something similar out for me and look how it suits me. At least until there’s something better this could be something.
Nice, just ordered a rii 7 mini too. So I can craft me a nice little hat with that one using the presenter for work only. Thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it. Have a good one!
They said they weren’t going to do VR at all. But they did when they realized the number of people that were not going to buy the game because of the lack of VR. VR is coming to Xbox. Probably in the flavor of WMR. Probably sooner than later. It wouldn’t make sense to wait until Sony stole all of their potential customers away before adding VR. They need a dedicated partner though to make the headsets in the beginning and MS is not the best bedfellow.
Here you are some screenshots for the settings, and a picture of the “sofa table” I’ve made with cardboard and vinyl glue in order to keep it all together without messing with cables jams every single time (just 1 USB 3.0 cable goes down to Xbox). Watch out for the USB switches that I’m pointing.
