VRAM Performance Regression

Some people have forgotten about the topic below, which concerns performance in SU2 Beta.

[1.4.18.0] SU2 Beta Survey - Performance (PC) - Sim Update 2 Beta | MSFS 2024 / Surveys - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

How is this airport complex?
It’s a default non payware airport.
It 100% is a issue with the sim, everything is fine on my end of things.
Let Asobo run the same test with the same card and they’ll get the same results.

Same behavior happened on areas with less PG and smaller airports btw.

Some of you know I have been following this issue elsewhere with un-named software and if you really want to screw up your VRAM may I suggest that you use AIG Tech Traffic Controller. If you are not familiar this will inject some very good looking planes into your airport.

At SFO and 100% AIG it will inject more that 100 aircraft at which point the VRAM goes through the roof and everything goes to a crawl… anyway these are controllable issues.

Despite these issues I have an ASUS 5080 on order from last Friday and they still have not shipped it… hope they actually have it and this is not vapor ware in the form of a GPU and fake stock.

EDIT: It is now a week into this order and they say maybe next week: BUYER BEWARE OF BAIT AND SWITCH ON “IN STOCK” AND AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY.

I am an airport dev and converted one of my native 2024 airports to 2020. Used the same models/LODs/Ground textures, etc. In 2020 it runs better in ULTRA settings, DX12. I saw the VRAM go to 99% during moving, panning, but it was able to recover.

The bug in 2024 is that once your VRAM gets to 99%, the sim is done, it will not recover. Not even going back to the Main Menu.

Probably even harder to fix whatever the issue is because this is not easily reproducible. I have regularly exceeded 100% of available VRAM and spilled into system memory and it recovers fully within a minute or less.

Exactly that! It is impossible to play with video cards with 8 or 12GB of VRAM. To start playing without losing performance and quality, you need to have a video card with 16GB or more. For now, FS2024 is no longer possible for me.

Thank goodness we have FS2020, which by the way is great for playing with excellent performance and quality. I’m playing at 1440p DLSS4 FG in high definition with 60fps without maxing out the VRAM on my RTX4060.

LEBB (Bilbao) is a VRAM consuming default airport… and it’s a medium airport…

I have now tried LSZH with the inibuilds A350, which is also a very demanding plane. Result: No issue, VRAM usage is quite low (between 10 and 11 GB), far below EDDF or EDDM, for example. If you have really problems in LSZH, you have configured your system really strange, since this should be no problem even with a 12 GB Video Card.

24 posts were merged into an existing topic: Resizable ReBar & VRAM in the SU2 Beta

This is the latest official communication we have about this problem. I would expect absolutely nothing.

Yes, it’s honestly quite frustrating. No updates about anything for two weeks now. The community is just being left to fend for itself and has to solve the problems as best it can…

That’s possible, but it would surprise me. The issues only started for me after the last update. Same system, same drivers, same settings.

I’ve asked the moderators to move a few of the ReBAR posts over to the dedicated thread. Just a friendly reminder that the discussion about ReBAR impact on VRAM is happening over here:

This is so bad, I just updated to the release version and the VRAM performance is now even worse!!! It increased by 1GB!!!

vs before !

Please disable any custom scaling settings and restore the default settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Ideally, I recommend performing a clean reinstallation of the NVIDIA drivers using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) beforehand to ensure no leftover settings interfere.

Also, I do not recommend using NVIDIA Profile Inspector unless you are fully aware of the implications, as improper tweaks can cause instability or performance issues.

To be honest, I have no idea who recommended buying a 2K monitor for such a weak PC.

The problem is only on the vram side, and didn’t occur prior to the update..

by the way I’m quite confused, those aren’t my pc specs
