Warning: Your graphics device has encountered a problem

i would agree if its the case in using 4090 with other than MSFS, But since you can watch real based landmarks in 4k with 150+ fps max settings, its not a waste @ all. so certainly 1080p is a miss using latest tech.

& yea this gpu error is strange no matter what it’s exact cause is. LOL

thats correct, I just wondered, because it can be much cheaper GPU if focus is on 1080p only

I tried a lot to reproduce the issue, with hints given from users. But also if I OC my 2080TI , to bring my system in trouble, I never can force that popup ( open for testing: multi-monitor and playing long time in window-mode ). But may be I get in next weeks all the replacements for the electro waste I got, then I can also try MSFS with a 4080 and then I can see whats happen

even if its happening, it wont be related to the card it self, its something within the sim for sure. so there is no compromises in this gen of cards,

if we sure about a specific hardware range, then it would be already a step forward

well we are just users, we can test, but cant tell afterwards. we hope everything will be fixed in the end by the experts behind it. LOL.

I can barely get the Sim to launch before this warning appears. It’s been months now and I have tried almost everything that has been suggested in posts all over the net. Just can’t get this to work…

its a common issue, but we have good hopes.

I’ll try limiting to 90FPS and see if it fix it.

The story for my 4080 is that my 1080ti died 1.5 month ago after 6 years of loyal services and I had to buy a new one. I wanted a 3080ti but nothing available for less than the price of a 4080 and 3090ti was a no go because power consumption is too high for me. So the 4080 was my “last” affordable GPU option…
But now I have a reason to buy a 1440p (or more) screen (just need some money and that error to be fixed since it’s only happening in MSFS)

and that makes this issue so strange… lots of users never see that popup , but on other side some users can not play. Therefore are here users which try to reproduce the issue and may be the trigger can be found.

the best act is not to force the sim to use so much power, then it wont be so harmful to have a crash or two in several days, by knowing that no issue will last in the end.

It seems to affect any hardware. We have plenty of reports from users with 30x0 cards, some with 20x0 and I have a GTX 1660 and also have the issue.

yep… therefore I searching/thinking in all directions… also driver, OS, other system components, but also things around like the mentioned multi-monitor setups. In special if we can bring a system which never seen that popup ( or CTD ) to crash with that popup, we can sure about the reason

If I not “in try to reproduce such issues” I fly usually with a fps limit ( global my monitors max 75 ) and a in-game vsync of 50%. This is 38 fps and my 2080TI is in most situations in 4K/ultra at 100% load. But as mentioned, I also did many tests without any kind of limit and OC the already factory pre-overclocked card, no issues so far.

The thing with possible invalid shaders, or files in appdata is may be also a point. Steam users can simple remove (backup) the whole appdata\micros. flight… folder ( if NOT having packages is installed in it ! ). What needs to redo after restart of msfs is then the packages-folder ( assume it was not installed in default location ! ) and the graphic settings, the other things come from the cloud.

As long we not really found a bullet-proof reason, we can only recommend the fps-limit, reduce system-load, etc. things… which seemingly helps some users.

Very, VERY strange. My setup has been running perfectly and I haven’t changed anything… nothing at all.

Out of nowhere, it just happened to me 5 times in a row trying to load up the Sim.

Running 2560x1440, render scale 100%, most settings on Ultra:

  • Windows 11 Home, 22H2, build 22621.963, Exp. Pack 1000.22638.1000.0
  • MSI Z690 Edge (DDR4) mobo
  • i7 12700k
  • 32 GB DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM
  • Gigabyte RTX4080 Eagle 16GB
  • Inland Performance 2TB 3D TLC NAND PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe SSD
  • ACER XV322QU 32" IPS monitor

Getting it on my 4090…all addons give me CTD on approach. FSrealisotc, Flight Control Replay, etc. playing in safe mode (with my same high settings) I can land every time. It’s like they all of a sudden gave me the CTDs within a few weeks of eachother.

The switch to Fullscreen in msfs fixed it for me.

Maybe this might help a few people as it did for me. I created an account on here just to post this.

I recently installed the Working Title GNS 530/430 from the marketplace in MSFS, it’s a free GPS replacement that’s currently being beta tested, if you install it from the marketplace it will replace all the default Asobo GPS 530/430 in any aircraft that use the default GPS units. After I installed the package I began having this exact same crash and it was the first time I had ever had one. Even after testing with an empty community folder it was still randomly doing it, but at least MSFS was generating an error report in my C:\Users\Andrew\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft Flight Simulator folder.

The only thing new from the marketplace that I had installed recently was the Working Title units so uninstalled them and the crashes stopped, I haven’t had a single crash since.

Hope this helps someone out.

I am just waiting to read about a solution of this bug. I love the game itself but I just cant bother to play it when it behaves like this. Some days it runs flawless for hours, and another day it just crashes all the time so. Over and out until better days…

It would be extremely rare to have the WT gps related to this bug, in your case removing it just probably reduces the load on your gpu.
Thanks for posting, anything can help!

Same thing here with me and the working title gps. I have never installed this before until today and all of a sudden I am getting this error but only when I go to VR. Before I started getting this error though I noticed all of my VR settings somehow got set to medium and low on their own so when I set them all back to ultra I can no longer use the sim in VR and it crashes instantly upon enabling it. Is there a way to reset the VR settings so that they don’t start in ultra now and then I can test it further. I just find it interesting that I never had any issues running VR in ultra until I installed the WT gps from the store. There’s some kind of issue here. I am running a 5800x3d with 32gb ddr4 3600 and a 4090 so resources are not the issue here.

I have uninstalled it and its still crashing, so no luck for me.
I have nearly tried everything I found here. New drivers, older ones, game ready drivers, studio drivers, removing all addons, even fresh installed twice and without luck.
I have the problem since the aniversary update was launched, I haven`t been able to use the sim for months.
