Call me crazy but I think I remember during a Dev Q&A stream that one of the guys said that the old Ultra was now the 200 setting in TLOD. Does anyone remember when they said that? I’ve been away for 2 years and back in the day I remember the TLOD being a selection between Low/Med/High/Ultra. Now I come back and their is a slider from 10-400. I it’s wanted to see if anyone remembered the number for the old ultra.
It was always 10-400 (and I think you could set it higher than that in the cfg file, but in one of the Sim Updates(SU8?) The affect of the numbers changed, and I think the rule of thumb was that the new 200 (now current 200) was roughly equivalent to the old 400 but with better performance (and slightly reduced quality?) It was a while ago now. But certainly, reducing the LOD sliders usually makes a significant improvement in performance without the same hit on look and feel that it had on the original versions.
Yes 200 was the ultra setting before one of the sim updates, but they increased it to 400 for those that wanted it. I run at 300 a lot of the time which looks great in 2k (though not greatly different at 1080) but it has a hit on performance with a lot of addon packages. 400 looks fantastic but the performance hit is way to great for my rig (which is no slouch with a 5800X3D and an RTX3080).
Quite a few even run below 200 to improve stuttering and fps.
You can indeed. I used to run 500/500 for a few months, but those days are long gone. I’m down to 300/200 now to get the same performance I had back then.
