Form Heathrow to DFW, not sure if this is at every heavy gate but passengers need to throw their kids and carry on’s to flight attendants before jumping over.

I think it may be a game feature that has not yet been completed (wait for the update). The pushback truck is in the way and the connect ground crew are waiting for the pushback driver to come back from his smoke break and move his truck. Gamers are supposed to guess how long the smoke break will. 100 earned point if your guess is within 15 seconds. 
Thats the sort of thing id do in Airport Tycoon, watch all the people fall off like lemmings.
