This weekend has been a total bust for me in MSFS20.
I fight through my painful work week to get to my weekend flight times and this weekend hasn’t been as fun as it should be. Without our Controllers working properly the Flying is Ugly. It’s like flying a Dolphin jumping in and out of water.
This weeks Frustration:
Custom Controller Settings wiped out (AGAIN!) <<< Beyond Frustrating
I am tired of setting up my Controller. Truly tired of it.
Horrid Robotic/On Rails Sensitivity issues without ability to adjust them due to known bug
These are not new issues. They keep recurring going as far back as early alpha days. I truly do not understand how controller settings keep getting 86’d. It was expected during the early days, but now that we are in the Release version, the very last thing we should be dealing with is silly Controller issues.
Someone somewhere along the line just isn’t paying attention to something and more eyes need to be brought to bear especially on these small yet BIG details.
So anyway, I wish Asobo would hire a few more “patch” people to at least put out some Hot Fixes for
issues dealing with things like Controller settings/mappings so that we aren’t just left out here waiting incessantly.
I get that Avionics and Flight Dynamics and all that kind of math-ey stuff are very intensive and time consuming labors, but controller issues… nah, those need to be addressed asap. This is truly unacceptable at this point. Please make the Weekends Perpetually Fun Again!
TY
P.S.
removed the long load time complaint as that appears to be an issue with the community folder slowing the load time if you have a lot of content in it.
I think the problem is that its easy to fix issues that everyone has or are easily reproducible. Seen lots of complaints here but not about mappings disappearing or 8 minutes to load so these uncommon problems are not easy to find or solve for Asobo.
I understand that, but these issues have been around since early Alphas. Something keeps going wrong the same way.
The sensitivity issues is listed as a known issue. Since the mappings have also gotten screwed up I imagine it’s all connected as neither was an issue until the last few days, which makes me think it’s a server issue somewhere as after I installed update on Wednesday I did not have any issues with either until yesterday. Something server side must have gotten nudged or it crashed… IDK
Anyway, being that the known Controller issue truly ruins the immediate flight experience of all aircraft, my opinion or hope is, they would Hot-Fix such issues instead of making us wait for them to bury it in with all the other updates as they tend to take up to two weeks for them to release those kind of updates.
It would be really frustrating if we have to wait 2+ weeks for something like controller issues to get fixed again and again and again.
So I think that there has been a lot of ideosyncratic behavior with peoples games - I’m starting to wonder if a lot of them have to do with the little “fix mods” that are peppering all over the place, which end up conflicting with updates. I’m not saying not to use them, but I can see how avionics mods and such would end up conflicting with Asobos patching. I still havent had my avionics turn off, and I havent had many issues with crashes or load times. I have my own bugs that others don’t though.
There are a lot of really annoying issues, but I guess I have been spared of the worst of them this go around.
Edit: Well my controller sensitivity menu is gone unfortunately. That is a pretty big deal.
As a real world pilot I have come to the decision that as pretty as Microsoft Flight is it is still only an Xbox Game. Too many bugs and lack of features to be a first rate Sim for Instrument/Multi-engine rated pilots.
The lack of a multi-monitor set up shows how much it is for gamers, not experience flight simmers. Their focus on adding realistic scenery over fixing flagrant, annoying problems for the pilots of complex aircraft is very annoying. (Yes, I know about using the ALT button to popup some of glass instruments)
Also, these forced updates for things I don’t want or need (like the Japan scenery update) is just a bunch of more useless stuff to crowd my SSD.
It is what it is. A $100 game.
FSX doesn’t have the graphics the MS20 has, but it does have some great payware aircraft and navigational aides (Navigraph) that I really, really like.
I totally agree! I don’t think this software has the potential to become anything other than a Xbox game, especially with the present developers involvement! Even then as an Xbox game its pretty mundane and uninspiring!
It is truly a let down in many ways and would require quicker fixes indeed. On the weekend I thought I’d give it another chance, downloaded the update and went for a flight around the Grand Canyon with the glass C172. I was startled by the fact that the controller sensitivity menu was completely blank (for whatever reason), so operating the (trimmed-out) plane on final approach was a pain in the ■■■■, and I already let the AP do most of the work, even in the pattern … I never experienced this kind of despair with my yoke in a year of XP11, it all started on August 18. It may be a cheap yoke (the Saitek one), but not that bad.
It’s crazy. I’m just coming back from another flight and the yoke in my hands is hardly moving at all, but more importantly, the one in the plane is hardly moving at all either, still the plane thinks it’s the daughter of an Extra 300 and goes mental on the tiniest inputs. Ridiculous.
Also the camera system, something so basic and simple yet so important … I don’t know why they just seem to ignore the fact that people have been wanting and needing a centered exterior view camera and the possibility to invert the mouse for weeks. It’s just not addressed and probably won’t be for another couple of weeks or months. Can’t stop shaking my head at this, seriously. These are the basics and should be very very very easy to fix. I wish I didn’t have to be so negative about it, but this feels very much like a demo of some students’ project game.
Ah, have I mentioned that on the last flight from 5 minutes ago the G1000’s CDI wouldn’t work on a VOR I was trying to fly towards? Even the DME worked, but the CDI didn’t indicate a thing. A shame.
I’ll agree with you on the non centred external view as that one’s baffling to say the least. Why the aircraft is positioned in the bottom third of the screen is a mystery. Not a deal breaker here but hopefully that can be changed, even if the view could be adjusted like the in cockpit seat height then it could be set at whatever height is personal preference.
The Honeycomb yoke I have seems to have fared better than the Saitek then as , even without the sensitivity menu, it’s workable and behaving itself pretty well. All going well today this should be literally back on the menu.
I think it has to do with The Golden Ratio to look more authentic. You also don’t photograph objects in a centered position. I think this is what Asobo wanted to do with it.
The tone of your post is very disparaging towards MSFS as a simulation platform which is a little supprising and indicates to me that’s you’ve not fully understood where the development process is, the goals of the development team and the current capabilities of the platform. That’s fine you’ve made a judgement on the here and now.
I certainly can’t argue with you with the sim in it’s current state, this is a platform which needs time to mature. I’ve witnessed many IRL pilot though getting a lot out of this platform already especially with some of the aircraft mods out there.
It sounds like this sim is not ready for you yet, so all I’m going to say is come back in 12 months time and see if your opinion has changed.
I have h/w that is a notch lower than the recommended specs with only 320NX added there but - I have none of the problems, load times improved visibly after the last patch as well. Giving details on system, OS, hardware, add ons etc is vital for debugging. How does one suppose even with the hardware info will Asobo reproduce the issue?
So sorry you getting these. I don’t know if they will be as simple to fix though as I can’t really say I’m getting any of them.
Controls have been fine since the alpha patches, loading time is ok, I can almost get into the air in the time you get to the Any key page. For sensitiviy I use my joystick manufactures curves which help a lot but this needs to be baked into the sim.
I do agree 100% though if anoying issues come through that patches should be made a priority within <1 week turnaround at the most, it’s just in this case I don’t see these issues effecting enough people.
I see your point but the rule of thirds or golden ratio isn’t constrained to one particular area of your composition which the external view unfortunately is. I suppose the drone camera is the best tool to use for that. I disagree that objects shouldn’t be photographed centrally in the frame as on occasion that gives the best composition for the shot you want with the subject you have and a lot of pro’s will do it when the situation is right. Perhaps a simple up/down/left/right adjuster for the external view would cover all the bases
I put this in a zendesk ticket request weeks ago and all they did was add it to the requested features category. Didn’t even classify it as a bug (which it is, how could you not make the external views center able). This should be an easy fix but they’ll release scenery for iowa and nebraska first probably. That’s more important.
A horizontal and vertical slider (like in some MMOs), how far the plane should be from the center in the normal outside view, would probably satisfy everybody. That would be ideal.
The software fixes need to go through a cycle of review, development and QA testing. In multiple environments. You cannot put out fixes “Asap” without creating bugs or breaking other stuff.
