So is this a benefit everyone will see, or only those redownloading? Should I expect the size of the installation to reduce now?

my HDD still has the same free space before the update should we do clean install?
Keyword here is initial. The initial download is smaller. The game is the same size on your drive as it was before once it is installed. No need to reinstall anything.

Unless someone is having constant problems with MSFS, I wouldn’t even attempt it. And if 170 GB is causing someone major space availability issues on a PC, they probably shouldn’t have installed MSFS to begin with. And where exactly is that statement coming from? I’d like to see the entire context of the statement.
I think they just reduced the package size during initial install download.
The decompressed size in your HDD/SSD is the same.

Well people with a slow connection and regular cpu will be more than happy.
If your CPU is the limiting factor for decompressing files, you will probably have a lot of problems running this game.

If your computer would take 6 hours to decompress 80+ GB of data then it already failed the first basic performance test 
So it actually is a great idea 
Very sensible idea. Less traffic. Maybe they can use the GPU for decompression of textures (?)
Again, with a stupid clueless install process. Click on install in the MS Store and it says “You already own this game”. Click on the Downloads and updates page and Almost ready stuck at 588.4MB.
No wait, now it’s at Downloading .. 1.22GB of 1.66GB.
What is going on here? Why can’t there be any sort of consistency? Everytime I try to update this program there is some new weird thing which makes no sense.
Somehow it managed to install the program file (surprisingly quick for 1.66GB, in fact, too quick. My internet is not that fast so I don’t know what happened there, I can’t believe it fully downloaded 1.66GB in a few minutes. Maybe MS has finally got around to incremental update of the main program folder instead of full redownloading?). Program starts in full screen (urgghh) and forgets where I installed my community and official folders so it shows an 80GB download. Once redirected to my existing folders the update is only 3.45GB.
