Weather Radar Display with Vertical Scan Mode Selected

I’m having difficulty assessing the altitude of the weather radar in vertical mode.
As you range in and out the scale changes. Are the dots supposed to give you the altitude or just visually approximate. Looking at this photo how do you know what altitude the red radar return is?
