Something is off with either the game, my PC or the settings. I eventually noticed something is off with the settings. So I tried changing them and noticed this weird performance increase/decrease (or more, the lack of it).
For example, I pick the X-Cub and start a flight somewhere in northern Egypt. With Low settings, I get a rather steady 35 FPS (always around 50 outside the plane). When I select Ultra, it first has low FPS around 20, then after 10 seconds it levels off and stays steady around 28 FPS. The visual quality difference is massive. How is the FPS difference so low?
Did you restart your Pc after your first flight? If not, try it, some people in the alpha/beta had much better performance after their first pc restart ( including me ).
In the alpha, beta builds i had 45-60 fps everytime. Since the release, i have 14 FPS on LFPG (ultra settings) and 20 in low.
Near EGLL it is around 10 FPS…
Tried to change the game location to C: but it didn’t change anything.
I was getting 60fps with drops to 45 fps and the mid 50s causing a lot of stutter.
No worries i’ll cap at 30 and it’ll be smooth.
Capped the frame rate at 30 fps (no change to any graphics settings) I’m getting 26 - 30fps.
Can’t say i’ve enjoyed my first day with the sim. I’ve been in the settings trying every possible setting and it will not run smooth.
Performance is all over the place. One moment i’m on ultra with smooth 60fps, the next moment it drops to 20 for a few seconds. Then back to 45 etc etc. Also depending on location. Some photogrammetry cities do really well but others are completely unflyable. Seems like it’s the same old story again. 40fps difference between different planes and location is just not accaptable if you’d ask me… Settings don’t seem to help much either. 787 is one of the biggest reason to go for the upgrades but the fps are really bad and prety much unflyable at major handcrafted airports. Really hoped this time it was different. But seems like we’re back to the good old “wow i got 30fps” age again.
It’s FSX all over again. CPU IPC is king. The loads into cache for all the geometry is what is causing the stutters. An Intel Extreme CPU at 6 Ghz with a massive cache on NVMe will probably give you the smoothest experience.
Same problem here: Low FPS (Mid 20s) regardless of high ultra or low end.Previously solid 30s with Ultra. Moving to a low poly count scenery area does not help. This came with the last update. System here near highend 10700 1080ti 32G etc.
I should add that the 2020 FPS display says “Limited by MainThread”
TaskManager: CPU 22% GPU 65% Memory 38%.
In many cases, TERRAIN LOD (CPU Bound), Supersampling (memory and GPU) and Volumetric-Cloud (GPU) settings are too high.
Also, many of the shadows are CPUBound and should be set lower.
Other than that, the effect is not as noticeable as the degree of visual effect reduction.
