What 4090 card

Evening all, finally pulling the plug and ordering parts for the new rig

Was looking to run a 3 24/27 screen set up but cupboard is only 100cm wide so going to go with a 4k oled monitor ( unless it isn’t worth it )

Is the Ryzen 9 7950x3d better then the 7 7800x3d

What 4090 should I get ? The oc version and from Nvidia or the ASUS version etc

How much ram ? And what make ?

Best mother board how many fans and what size psu

Am I best just getting a build from a specialist ?

Looking to order tomorrow budget around 3/3.5k from what I’ve seen

Thanks

What I’ve been looking at

If you are buying new and you must get it now you definitely want a Ryzen 9800x3d as it is now king of the gaming hill by a long shot. If you can afford it pair the cpu with a nice X870E motherboard like an Asrock X870E Taichi or the MSI MPG X870E Carbon wifi.

I’d also recommend at least 32-48 gig (2 stick kit) of single ranked DDR5-6400 memory and ensure it is on the motherboard vendors QVL list to ensure compatibility.

There are many other threads advising to hold off for a little longer since the 2024 sim is being released 11/19 which will allow some benchmarking.

9800x3D.

4090: In terms of performance, just get whatevers cheapest or what you like the look of, there’s not much difference in performance.

I’m really happy with the PNY 4090 for 2 years now. Looks good, isn’t as huge as some of the others, performs well, cool, and really quiet, no coil whine.

Mine is from MSI.

So the 9800x3d over the 7800x3d seems to be the choice and any 4090?

I think I’ll just find one with them in and buy one from somewhere like chill blast etc as they’ll know what’s best for the internals where I could
Be looking for specific stuff for days

Does mother boards matter that much ? Obviously you want to future proof it ? What about ram? Any specific makes to stick to ?

I will say, be aware that new nvidia cards are coming in January. Maybe aim to purchase then, as you can either get the new 90 series card or buy a 4090 used at a decent discount thanks to people upgrading. The latter is how I obtained my 3090 for far less than market value.

I think the new 5090 would be out the price range to be fair and I don’t really fancy waiting that long as I’m sure the 4090 will be fine for years to come …. Well I’m hoping so

How much do you think the 5090 would be ?

There was a leak today saying it would be 2k to 2.5k. Just a leak though, might be wrong.

There have been a number of leaks that also pointed towards the 1.8k range… dang these prices are insane. I haven’t actually seen new 4090s for less than that in a long time tho

How much are those 4090s you’re looking at? I don’t see any new ones for less than 1.8k as it is unfortunately

Yeah there around 1.8 still

Is this rig decent ? I’m tearing my hair out looking now so think I’d rather just get one pre built can obviously change stuff if needs be on there site

I suspect msrp is probably 2k or below for the founders, and the AIB cards are probably gonna be more like 2.5k

Probably, hope the EU prices aren’t TOO nose-bleedy…

Yeah hopefully it isn’t bad… but AMD no longer even competes in the high end so who knows? I’d love to get a new 90 series since I could justify it for other work I do, especially with certain current events threatening to make certain products quite a lot more expensive. It’s either that or noodling through marketplace listings for a deal on a used 4090.

I’ve found the ram but when configuring the pc online I shows 5200 and 6000 and 6400

What one would be better for that mother board ?

RTX 4090 Gaming OC from Gigabyte - an incredible card that I’ve been using for a year. I specifically chose Gigabyte because their GPUs don’t suffer from coil whine which is a major plus.
Additional advantage of this GPU is the inclusion of an anti-sag bracket in the package.

FYI, currently, the best CPU for gaming is the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It’s an outstanding CPU specifically for gaming, offering top-tier performance but it’s not recommended for multitasking or heavy workloads outside of gaming.

2 stick kits of 32-48 GB are 2 rank.

32gig (2x16) - 48gig (2x24) single ranked memory.
