From Santo Antonio de Ica (SWSA) to Manaus (SBMN)
In Brazil, until the meeting with the Rio Negro at Manus, it is called Solimois. This river section is characterized by the presence of numerous tributaries, lakes and flood zones on both sides of the riverbank, the channels in the middle of the jungle are passable by canoe and are known as Igarape. The Lago do Espiritu Santo in the vicinity of Cori stands out for its size. Where we rehearsed an aquatic touch and go.
It is common for the clouds that form throughout the day to dump rain next to our route. As we approach Manaus the sunset advances and gives us an unforgettable spectacle of color.
We arrived in Manaus and land after crossing the bridge over the Negro River that will be the next day’s route.
Manaus, the capital Amazonas, stands as one of the most emblematic cities in the Amazon region and its history is marked by the rubber boom. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the city experienced an unprecedented boom thanks to the exploitation of the rubber tree, the Hevea brasiliensis. Manaus became a commercial and cultural epicenter, attracting businessmen, immigrants and artists from all over the world, this period of splendor ended abruptly when the British brought rubber seeds to their colonies in Asia, initiating mass production outside the Amazon and causing the collapse of the local market.
