This simulators idea is to be as close as possible to real world.
Mainly its true but there is a new problem with the online players.
Some pilots airplanes floats above and around airports and they dont understand, how to behave in network.
That irritates a lot.
How can I get rid of these killjoys and enjoy the game without them ?
The only time I turn on multiplayer is if I’ll be flying with someone or participating in a community event. Otherwise, it’s off so I don’t have to deal with “those” people.
Tedious but works: Esc for menu, click the round antenna icon on the top toolbar to show all players, click the offending player, a window pops up where you can block that user. Now here comes the tedious part: You have to restart FS to make the block have any effect for you.
Sometimes, particularly on weekends when I just want to make sure I can enjoy at least the takeoff with the decreasing number of people who just want to do it right and taxi properly to the correct runway and hope nobody approaches from the other end etc. I spend a while on the map and then on the airport to identify all the idiots players currently buzzing other players with their fighters, spawning on the runway and doing a full preflight on it, approaching or departing the wrong runway and then I restart the sim and enjoy the filtered air. Over the time I must have cumulated a really impressive list of blocked users but at least where I frequently fly I have much less problems with that.
Of course I hope this works both ways so that blocked users can’t see me anymore but bothering about that isn’t my job. Also, avoiding places like JFK, LGA, CDG, FRA… helps a lot with that too, and so does turning off the stupid giant labels making players with a different idea of fun much less visible.
Edit: In case you’re not familiar with the Xbox platform - the block has no negative effect for the blocked player, it just makes them invisible for me so everyone can have their idea of fun realized. The multiplayer function in FS was a barebone proof-of-concept for a future MP function from the beginning, and at the latest with the increased number of players due to the recent platform integration it proves to be hurtfully inadequate particularly for people who just want to have a little meatware company around and not go the full nine yards to VATSIM.
If you’re interested in a multiplayer network where people do follow the rules of aerial navigation properly, you might check out VATSIM! When flying on VATSIM you’ll use a network client that connects to the simulator to inject multiplayer traffic as well as gives you a radio simulation to contact other pilots and actual humans roleplaying as ATC.
Thank a lot for all of you.
Im a PC player. I will test the players block out system first. Im interested of Vatsim, but have understud, that it is difficult to understand the ATC, because english is not my mother tonque. That is the only reason, why I have not join that network. Currently Im Volanta player.
One of the most important attribute in this simulator is the multiplayer option. Its very nice to have real humans flying with me.
… so see you correct pilots in the sky !
I tested the block out system, but could not kick any players, because there is not any block out option
in the opened player window, only players name and go back- option.
How can I get the option visible ?
I remember trying to land at EGLC during a weekend shortly after the game launched, and I must have needed to go around four or five times in a row because of people overtaking me on final or spawning on the runway.
It was at this point I realised that a) ATC isn’t synced between multiplayers, and b) collisions did not have any impact (excuse the pun). Since then, I keep multiplayer turned on for the traffic, but if someone cuts me up on final or spawns on the runway ahead of me, I will just ignore them and keep going. If I am ready for departure and I see another player on final I will wait, if they are holding short I will wait behind them (ok, after a couple of minutes I might pass ‘through’ them if I think they are AFK)
In theory, you’re correct. If everyone shared the same ATC, same AI / Real-time online traffic, ground traffic, etc, I’d be in complete agreement with. you.
But that’s not the case.
You merely see other multiplayer planes. That’s is. You have your own unique ATC that’s only aware of you and AI planes. Your ATC is oblivious to all other multiplayer traffic. And it’s the same for them. They could be flying in different weather, different time of day, with or without AI traffic, etc and it wouldn’t matter. Each player has his own “instance”. The only interaction you have with other players in multiplayer mode is seeing their planes. And as you noticed, many of those players are there for the purpose of being disruptive.
There’s no “block out”. Simply go to Options > Data and disable multiplayer. All other live players will no longer show up, and all you’ll see are AI planes - either offline AI or Real Time Online. Either set of those will be controlled by your ATC.
In the end this is not real life and some people just want to have fun, some also just want to be jagoffs.
To help alleviate this try the following:
Play in Live Mode vs All Players. This will cut down on some players who are not obeying all the rules of flying IRL. Hopefully there will be updates that get rid of spawning on the runway and hopefully some other restrictions that break immersion soon.
Fly out/in of less popular airports.
Fly on one of the human controlled virtual airspace networks like VATSIM, IVAO, PIlotEdge.
Turn off multiplayer altogether.
I mostly fly GA. The biggest thing I fly so far is the CRJ-700 and the DC-6. I will probably get the PMDG 737 as long as it has the Virtual Flight Engineer to help me get started.
I should be able to get all of these out of regional/municipal airports. I like this more than flying the largest jets, out of the biggest airports, one the longer flights.
All this does is ensure that the players you see are using the same weather and time of day you are. It does nothing for the griefers looking to ruin other peoples’ experience.
Limiting yourself to where you go in this large open world due to nuisance players is rather extreme. Part of the price tag of MSFS is to have the entire world open to us. To avoid certain areas because of undesireable players is really not in the spirit of what this sim is supposed to be.
Completely agreed! Although the OP stated he’s concerned about the language barrier as his English is not that great. I can totally understand his point.
And this right here is the exact solution to the problem. I figured this out shortly after launch. And every time I’ve re-enabled multiplayer to check out if things have gotten better, I’ve quickly regretted it, particularly after the influx of players after SU5. MP gets enabled when I’m flying with someone else or in a community event, and then disabled again as soon as I’m done.
I understand that. But I have noticed less shenanigans in Live mode vs All Players. Hopefully in the future there will be restrictions in place to cut down on behavior that would be illegal/unrealistic IRL and enhance immersion for pilots that want to fly as close to IRL rules as possible.
But for now its multiplayer off or human controlled airspace add-ons.
Even if you follow all the rules of flying you still might get landings or takeoffs on top of each other if your using the default ATC in its current state.
Id like to think with the right hires and leveraging Azure that MS/Asobo could make a AI ATC capable of handling all (or at least large groups) of players at once.
Agreed. It reduces the number slightly. Likely the ones that are removed are the ones that are just doing their thing. They’re being disruptive, but they’re oblivious to the fact they’re being disruptive.
The players that are out there to specifically grief others - and there are those in every online game - are the real problem. Their game is to ruin other peoples’ experience. That’s their whole reason for playing in the first place. They’re the ones that already know to use Live Players mode to affect the most players possible, as ALL players will see them if they’re in that mode, not just a subset.
Very true. No matter what there will always be jagoffs. A more efficient system to hide offending players or a kick/ban system in Live Players is needed to make any significant impact.
Id still like to see something as basic as a hotkey for displaying gamertags.
That’s certainly true but there used to be some nice interaction that doesn’t depend on ATC etc. - planes queuing up at the holding point, the first one stopping for another player on short final despite having T/O clearance from ATC, the guys behind waiting patiently for their turn, and I’m happy if I’m the guy on the final and see that the other guys visually checked for traffic and let me land, in turn I check for traffic before I enter the approach path, try to judge how much space there is between me and the next guy and do everything to make approach and landing as fast and short as possible, or fly a circle to line up behind the other guy, let an airliner pass before I enter the same taxiway… ATC is not needed for that, just some common sense, courtesy and consideration. A nice, low-level, no hassle way of having some “real people” traffic enhancing each other’s experience.
This often worked nicely in my neck of the woods, it still works occasionally but for the most part it’s all pure chaos now, and only a part of this chaos is caused by ATC. Of course I’m talking “Live Players” mode here.
Yes there is, see my other post above. Certainly an exercise in futility at JFK and it’s some quite some extra effort but it works pretty well on my less popular home airport with a lot of other “regulars”. Whenever I still see someone goofing around, I’ll see him doing that only once. I’d very much prefer a MP system with an actual concept of course, providing something between chaos and VATSIM, something that just gives me traffic with a brain.
